Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler

Post by Reg »

Have you guys had a look at the Jonesoft Generic Mod Enabler that Cathartes is using with his planeside mod?

This utility has the potential to simplify the management of a lot of the other mods floating around (CHS/RHS/Shipside mods etc) particularly if you have several installed (I know I do).

I can see myself using this on my UV mods and Harpoon2 databases as well.
Cheers,
Reg.

I'm just nudging this a bit in case anyone has not grasped the potential of this simple little utility.

You can easily switch between CHS and other mods or vanilla WITP with a few clicks and everything is backed up so you can easily return to whence you were.  There is a bit of packaging work before you place your mods (files) in the utility, but once that's done... yer done.  You could, for example, go between full CHS PBEM to a stock PBEM in a matter of seconds and a couple of clicks (not including restarting WITP).  So... just bumping.

I totally agree! I wish I had known about this utility before I modded senarios for ship artwork. I am going to go back and redo alot of stuff just so I can use this utility to its full potential.[&o]

Cathartes - any ETA on the next set of superb airsides and tops?[;)]

The big pluses for me are:
  • The ease in the way the utility manages multiple mods.
  • No file gets over written unless it is backed up first.
  • If one mod overlays another, the utility forces uninstallation in reverse order.
  • Everything is just point and click.
  • Loading new mods is just creating a mirror of the game directory tree in the mods folder and populating it with the changed files.

I found it particularly powerful in the multiple mod area. For instance you can load CHS and then overlay your own ship graphics over the top (which may or may not be the full set). If you revert to the stock game (one click to revert your graphics and a second click to revert CHS), you can then re-apply your ship graphics mod to the stock installation with a single click.

Magic!!

This is a good utility. I actually looked for something just like this when I first made my map, but didn't find anything then, so I had to write my own very primitive utility for doing essentially the same thing (modselect). This is far better though.

I am adapting CHS and my map packages to use with this utility and I will bundle it with the packages also.
