SPWAW and Vista.

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

SPWAW and Vista.

Post by dudalb_slith »

Now that there are a few beta versions circulating about, has anybody tested how SPWAW works with Windows Vista?
I am concerned that with the old regulars fading away, compatibility problems with VISTA could mean the end of SPWAW.

I really hope that's true! I like to upgrade to the latest OS as early as possible but I would hate to have to do without my old friend SPWaW [&:]

I must, to my annoyance, revisit the issue of SPWAW beign compatibile with VISTA. Some time ago I made a statement on the board that I had been beta testing VISTA and had no problems with SPWAW. But something odd has happened since I went from the beta version to final relase. SPWAW crashes so much during the game that I have stopped playing on VISTA(I use my other hard drive with XP) I have yet to find the reason why. I have changed no hardware at all. In my opinion VISTA is the best OS Microsoft has ever released. But I think some of the final changes made to the system in november and december have cause some strange issues. Let me know how you all are doing with VISTA and the game.

Simple: keep your old PC & OS in working order. My dad's 386 with DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.10 still works fine and so does my 10 year old Pentium, upgraded to K6-2 and Win98SE in 2000 [:D]
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Well they have had years to try making one.

I will move over after VISTA SP1.
By then the basic bugs should have been removed and some of the security leaks.

I understand what you are saying. But after using VISTA for 8 months I am very impressed. The system has never crashed. Sometimes a program will stop working and VISTA gives you the option to close or let it search for the problem. Most of the time VISTA can id the issue-quite often it is a matter of an incorrect driver. Even though I have trouble with SPWAW I have yet to have problems with FOF, TOAW, BIN, or Gary Grigsby's WAW-go figure. Take the plunge and get VISTA-get a new hard drive, and install VISTA on it. DO NOT UPGRADE over an existing OS, because your basic foundation has parts of the old OS under VISTA and this causes problems.
