Entrenchments?

Post by jimwinsor »

For awhile there I could not figure out what this one icon was on top of my armies on the map. It was that little one to the right of my Stance icon, which (to me) kinda represented an apartment building under construction...or perhaps a Borg cube ship? It had a little man on the top, and occasionally a red triangle.

Well anyways, after much eyestrain at it, and then seeing a larger symbol for it on the battle results screen (which had a tooltip, fortunately), I now realize that it has something to do about entrenchments. And the red triangle seems to be a flag.

Okay. So, I see that Entrenchment icon atop on of my on map armies....what does it mean, exactly? And what does the occasional red flag signify? And while we are on the subject: Is there any way to determine the exact entrenchment % of a force on the map?

Entrenchments are constructed automaticly by units that are stationary in a region. It usually takes several days to construct entrenchments and once built, the unit will receive a defensive benefit. Not sure what you mean by entrenchment %. I believe that the entire force is either entrenched or not. Not sure about the red flag. I thought it was always there with the entrenchment icon.

red flag meaning 'entrenchment being done', when it disapears you are entrenched. If in the battle report you see a %, between 0 and 100%, then it means that some of your forces but not all are entrenched.

Hope it helps.

Pocus cleared that up for me. I wonder what that was .[:D]

It says in the manual that there is a PDF file on the CD that describes all the icons in the game. I could not find this anywhere in the folders on the installed version of the downloaded (only) game. Is there such a file on the actual CD?

I figured out what the "entrenchment done" icon was by searching for the PNG or BMP for that icon in the Graphics folder.

Sure would be nice to have that PDF file with a master icon/graphic chart.

The suggestion is sound... we'll implement it in the future. Thanks for the tip [8D]

Another idea: You can get the name of a special ability icon by just hovering over it on the leader, IIRC...why not add the whole one-line description of what it does to the tooltip as well?  Saves us lazy newcomers having to look it up in the manual.  [8D]

You are better to click on the NATO Symbol to open the detailed window, here you will get additional infos, on abilities and stats. We just can't add everything in the tooltip, some are already saying our are too big :)
