RE: More Moving the land units

Post by larryfulkerson »

As you can see from the picture I moved the 71st Inf Div HQ unit to more fully share it's
arty tubes and assigned the three regiments to attack the Soviet MP unit. I also moved
the 14th Korps HQ unit to complete the surround on the Soviet unit there but thinking
about it more fully, I realized that that was unnecessary since I'm going to be moving a
combat unit into that hex later.

I moved one regiment of the 262nd Inf Div South to attack the Soviet div. The other two
regiments are assigned to attack the adjacent Soviet div at min. losses.

As you can see in the picture the 295th Inf Div came in handy in finishing a surround on
that stack of Soviet stuff. Also, I moved the 1st Panzer Army HQ unit. One of the
elements of the 295th had enough movement points left to take part in the first combat
round.

Next to move is the 296th Inf Div. I moved all the elements of this division a short
distance and assigned them to attack at min. losses.

Next mover is the 68th Inf Div. I assigned the three regiments to conduct a limited attack
at min. losses so as not to move into the potentially vacated hex after the attack. I have
plans to move them south later.

There's nothing to move with the 257th Inf Div. I just assign the three regiments to attack
at min. losses.

Next I move the 1st Geb Div. Only the HQ unit moved, to share it's arty tubes. The two
regiments are to conduct a limited attack on the Soviet unit(s) there and at min. losses.
Also I moved AGS by rail to this area.

Moving the air units

Post by larryfulkerson »

Now we come to the part of the moving of stuff where we move the air units. Before I
move the air units I need to know where the Soviet air units are so I can best position the
Axis aircraft. Below is a list of the Soviet air squadrons and where they are at the start of
the scenario.

I wanted to put together one of those aircraft range charts to show where the aircraft are
graphically and I thought you might like to know how I calculated the size of the circles
to show them. I counted the number of hexes on the map from one known place to
another. Then on the minimap I drew a line from that place to the other place. And then
I drew a box around the line and noted how big in pixels it was. It was a simple
calculation after that to get an approx. size of the circles for the aircraft ranges.

So then I constructed a series of boxes of the appropriate size and drew circles in them,
found the centers and voila....we have a set of circles of the approx. correct size to
construct a chart of where the soviet aircraft are. An Axis chart could be constructed
the same way. And of course you would erase the straight lines in the picture.

Okay, I moved all the fighters to better positions ( I'm not sure it would be helpful to go
through all of them one by one ) and set them to min. losses and put them on air
superiority missions and set all the bombers on min. losses and gave them airfield attack
orders:

last minute pre-round 1 combat checks

Post by larryfulkerson »

Typically, just before I pull the trigger to launch the attacks, I go through the list of units
one more time just to make last minute adjustments, move the units that haven't moved
yet etc. One change I want to make is with the 620th Pioneer unit. Now that it has
conveyed units across the river he's free to do whatever else is in store. I used him as
in the picture below to finish the surround on the Soviet division.

moved the regiments to finish the surround on two Soviet units.
