Noob's progress (or lack of it!)

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Hmm.... I'm running into trouble trying to take Norway. I have a transport full of troops or tanks but I can't invade Norway from either the Skaggerak or the Kattegat or the Norwegian Sea, in either winter or spring. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I'm finding the Royal Navy is rather strong, even against U-Boats in the Atlantic. Rather too strong, in my opinion.

1. You can't invade Norway (or any other "cold region") during Winter.
2. You need enough invasion capacity (the number after the slash shown under your transport ships) in every sea region the invading unit moves through. You need 5 invasion capacity for every "normal" unit, and 10 for tanks. Note that you can only start invasions from coastal regions.

As long as you research submarine evasion (and attack), your uboats will stay very effective against allied shipping until late in the war (1943/44). Note that uboats will miss light and heavy fleets 2/3 of the time, their primary target are transport fleets.

Well, I'm still not sure about the WA strength against U-Boats in '39. I attacked only transports, yet still I get hunted down and destroyed. Until the US started lending destroyers in 41, the U-Boats were almost untouchable.

Sounds like things aren't that bad after all. [:'(]

Try investing every turn in uboat evasion and attack as Germany, the WAllies won't be able to hurt them much then.
