Another question: Do you plan to go into turn 2, and if so, who moves the soviets?

Of course there will be a turn 2, etc. Who moves the Soviets? Well, if nobody else wants to I guess I'll have to do it. I'll zip up the turn when I'm through and post it here and anybody who wants to can have at it. Then just post your moves in my AAR if you want to and we'll just keep going. If you want to you can. Any volunteers?

I can, but i fear i have no time to do such a detailed AAR like you. Well, let's see when you're done. I propose the guy who pics the turn up makes a quick post that he's done so.

Well, I'm retired and have all the time in the world to do nothing but AAR's but you guys in real life are busy....I understand completely. I have no problemo doing the Soviet side but the offer is still open, to anyone who wants to.

And I've had a request to speak about rounds.

As I understand it each turn is sliced up into 10% segments called rounds. And the percentage of movement points is apportioned out 10% at a time for each round. So for instance a unit that has 10 movement points and spends two of them has spent 20% of the turn moving....that's two rounds.

The game engine keeps track of the movement points remaining of each and every unit and if one of them takes part in some combat then it subtracts the percentage of the turn that that unit had to move to "get there" to do the combat. If a 10 movement point unit moved 3 movement points and then engaged in combat then after the combat the most the turn could possibly remain is 70%. That's it in a nutshell.

I'm of the impression that the complexity of each attack might play a role as well. Maybe even the number of attacks that take place. In the first round of my AAR there were 64 attacks and even though none of them should have lasted more than 10% of the turn I was still told that only 70% of my turn remained after all the combats. Perhaps there was a unit somewhere that was set on ignore losses and took three rounds thereby or something. I donno.

In the second round there were 41 attacks and I was told that 60% of my turn remained so that only 10% of the turn was taken up in the second round attacks. Go figure.

RE: Third round moves

Here's the situation at the beginning of round 3. The Soviet roadblock is gone from the road headed north so we can blast off headed in that direction. I really want my ship to be able to take part in the reduction of Riga and I need both the ports on the north ocean front road leaving the front lines to be able to do that so I need to send at least a division of troops headed north. The 291st Inf Div is in a good position for that mission:
to clean out the Soviet division and two Soviet regiments there on the ports.

Next I want to consider the movement of the 58th Inf Div. The regiments have only 5 movement points left so they can't go very far. If I move them into the town of Kretinga then in turn two I can head north or east whichever I need to depending on the circumstances at that time. And I decide to put the HQ unit on the airbase to lend it's arty tubes against the Soviet MP unit.

Now a word about the aircraft before we go much further. I put the aircraft with 39% readiness or lower on rest status to restore them to combat readiness next turn. I find that losses are much higher if you fight with readiness lower than "normal".

Also, I've been saving the Stuka squadrons to fly against the ships. I've been concentrating on the battleships around Leningrad, but if I had 1/2 ounce of brains I would fly them against the ships around Sevastopol as well.

The reason for using Stukas against ships is its extraordinary anti-ship strength. I suppose once the ships are gone it's back to combat support for the Stukas.

Here's how many Axis squadrons are still ready for combat after two rounds of fighting:

I tend to put the bombers on combat support, preferably before the moving of land combat units starts, because I believe it might help to get some RBC's on Soviet units. I have no proof of that however. After I move all the land units then I task all the bombers on airfield attacks in these early turns ( while it's still lucrative to go after the Soviet aircraft ).
