Next I want to move the 217th Inf Div. Two of the regiments can attack ( at min. losses ) the Soviet MP unit. The third regiment has too few movement points left to participate.

Next I want to move the 61st Inf Div. One regiments moves to cut off the retreat of the Soviet unit and the other two regiments move adjacent. The HQ unit has too few movement points to attack directly so I just put him on tac. res. mode.

Next I want to move the 285th Sec. Div. The HQ unit moves to share its arty tubes. The two regiments don't attack they just sit out this party since the two divisions should be more than enough to take care of that Soviet MP unit. Neither to they move however, since I don't want to pay the disengaging movement costs of leaving the enemy's hex.

Next I want to move the 53rd Nebel Werfer. I'm not sure that the divisions attacking need his help to reduce the Soviet MP unit but I figure I'd rather spend some rounds than lose anymore heavy rifle squads so....

Next I want to move the 459/693 rr arty piece. It has a range of only 2 so it's of no use where it is. So I move it back down south until I run into a case where I need a railroad engineer. There just happens to be one nearby who can repair the rr so I can move the rr arty into a good position to be of support.

Next I want to move the SS Totenkopf Div. My long term goal for these guys is to take the brunt of the fighting in Riga so I guess I ought to at least move them closer to that goal. I don't want to spend any penalties for moving alongside that Soviet MP unit however so they won't move very far along the road for now.

Next I want to move the 207th Sec. Div. I want them to corner the Soviet division remnants and convert hexes in the West and SouthWest Sides of Riga so I'll move them up to the road. There is one part of a regiment next to the Soviet MP unit that I don't want to move for now 'cause I don't want to pay the disengagement movement point cost.

Next I want to move the 1st Inf. Div. I have given the seaside ports more thought and I'm thinking that if I want them cleared out quickly, and I do, then it might take more than one division. So I'll send the 1st Inf Div up the seaside road to help in that endeavor.

Next I want to move the 21st Inf. Div. One of the regiments has no movement points left and I want the HQ unit to be adjacent to its regiments at the end of the turn for supply purposes so I move the HQ unit and the other two regiments so that at least SOMEBODY is on the road ready to go in turn two.

Next I want to move the 290th Inf. Div. The HQ unit and two of it's regiments can attack in the third round. The remaining regiment isn't in a good position and I don't want to spend any more movement points to get him there. I'm thinking all the firepower we have already available should do the trick on that Soviet engineer unit.

Next I want to move the 1st Panzer Div. The HQ unit and two of the divisions regiments are directly attacking that Soviet engineer unit and none of the other elements of the division move.

I'd rather have the Panzers on the road and headed for Riga but until this roadblock is gone they will just have to fight their way through it.

Next I want to move the 6th Panzer Div. The HQ is directly attacking that Soviet engineer unit and none of the other elements of the division move. My long term goal for this division is to have them rushing along the roads between here and south of Leningrad destroying Soviet equipment and perhaps repairing a bridge or two as the Soviets destroy them.

In the first round of my AAR there were 64 attacks and even though none of them should have lasted more than 10% of the turn I was still told that only 70% of my turn remained after all the combats. Perhaps there was a unit somewhere that was set on ignore losses and took three rounds thereby or something. I donno.

It would be useful if you could have identified which combats eat more then there turn. I don't know exactly how you would do this but I usually look for the phrase "Unit XYZ continues the attack" in the combat summary as an indicator of a combat that has over run.

P.s. I am also greatly enjoying you AAR and learning much. Switching from a purely mechanitsic overview to a more tactical/strategic AAR, as you metioned in the thread in the main forum, also sounds like a great idea. Its possible you will get to touch most bases with your AAR as its magnitude allows scope for it to be many things to many people at some point or other.

Next I want to move the 8th Panzer Div. The HQ unit is motorized and doesn't do well in forested terrain and I didn't want to spend a horrendous amount of movement points getting him through the forest so I moved the regiments though the forests and up on the road on the east side of the roadblock ready to go when the HQ unit can follow. These guys are to clear the roads between here and Leningrad.

I'll make it a point to look for that phrase in the combat reports....maybe we'll get to the bottom of the 100% ---> 70% problemo.

Thanks muchly for your comments.

Next I want to move the 269th Inf Div. I don't yet know where I need these guys to go but I do know that it won't hurt to move them east so I move them east a little bit. The HQ unit goes to tac. res. mode to help destroy that Soviet engineer unit.

EDIT: oops....no picture. See the next post.
