Rappahannock won't go blue?

Post by Harvey Birdman »

I sieged the James River fort something??? Then Richmond fell to siege. Richmond now has a blue star now and shows up in the North's city list, but Rappahannock province is still Red. The James River province on the strategic map has red dots but the James river province city Richmond has a blue star?

I try to upgrade weapons in either province and it says I can't because I'm in enemy teritory?

Does the fact that the siege containers were all siege artillery(no blue casualties that way) cause a bug?

To convert control you have to be adjacent to a province already under your control.  Was there any blue territory next to James R. or Rapphannock when you took 'em?  Note that Potomac R and Rappahannock are NOT adjacent.

All siege arty huh?  Hmmm...clever little siege ploy there, I must say!  [;)]

Chris replies: Thanx you all for the siege tip!!! Also, the word useage of 'ploy' reminds me of my great hero, the one that I at times emulate, Inspectour Clouseau of the Pink Panther movies. A good ploy indeed!! [:)]

Unrealistic and something that needs to be changed, in my opinion.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

I suspect that'll be Eric's opinion as well!

It sounds as if it's working as designed.  Rappahanock and Potomac River provinces are deliberately set to be not-adjacent (it was an excellent jimwinsor suggestion, btw) and that seems to keep the game more interesting in that theater, and as mentioned you won't be able to capture a province that's not adjacent to a province you already control.

I'm not sure if siege artillery all by themselves can capture a city, that may require a brigade as well.

Eric, jimwinsor was right. Freddiesburg was still red.

Interestingly, it seems siege artillery is a 'brigade' to the game.

From the manual...

5.2.1 Controlling a Province

A player gains control of undefended provinces at the end of the Movement Phase if he has a military group containing at least one brigade in a province. Both forts and cities defend provinces,
so to capture a province with forts or cities a player must first besiege and capture all forts and cities in the province. Enemy units also defend provinces, but are usually expelled from the province if they lose a combat in the province.

IMPORTANT: Provinces will only come under a player’s control if they are adjacent to another province already under that player’s control. For example, if the CSA player besieges and captures Columbus, Ohio, but does not control any adjacent provinces, then he will not be able to capture the city and take control of the province containing Columbus, even if he successfully besieges the city.

When I read this in the manual I thought naval invasions won't work unless the transports unload next a province I control. But, Richmond going blue and Rappahanock staying red made me wonder if naval invasions of river province cities would work.

They do, Mobile and New Orleans are now blue. [;)]
