Agreed. Is there anyone with some kind of "close connection" to the Wargamer guys? I emailed them about the scoring problem but never got a response.
I believe Sean Drummy, our playtest coordinator for AWD, is one of the Wargamer guys. But I would not bother. Here is why I think the Wargamer will not allow us to use a higher score system. It's all in the rankings. I mean all of it, every game recorded and logged there. If our game was the only one that used high scores, AWD and the people who play it, would quickly surpass everybody else in rank. It's rather elementary. Those who have been playing, for example, Steel Panthers for years and reached 1050 points would cry foul. The rankings for top players would quickly become loaded with AWD players. The Wargamer crew obviously knows this and that would explain their silence. Of coarse I could be way off in left field, but this theory seems sound.
As I said before, I think the Wargamer score system is seriously flawed. My problem with it is the tiny increments you receive for all your hard work. It would take a lifetime of wins to reach General. And everybody at the Wargamer site are of no higher rank than Lieutenant. There are several higher ranks but due to their flawed scoring system, no one can reach them. It's in serious need of an overhaul. What they need to come up with is a system that has independent scores and victory levels for each game. And have those scores determined by the respective fan community for that game. So in our case we could use the scoring system we created. They also need to get rid of the generic "Top 6 ranks" which as of this moment is lead by deadgrim. He may be the best at Steel Panthers but I could whip his butt in AWD. There is no such thing as "The best player." But there could be a best for each game hosted in Battle Leagues. So their whole format needs to change IMO. List the games and then within those games show the ranks of players.

Count me in. I'm on Wargamer as Tcarter. I'll be away for a week in mid January but otherwise should have no trouble making the 48 hr limit.

I wonder about the very same thing. Maybe we should log a fake "loss report" with just a few points to see what happens. I guess the system won't allow for a total different to 0 though.ORIGINAL: WanderingHead
I seem to recall from a description on this forum that Wargamer only supported smaller points than the described system. Why not change the point system by dividing by 10? Make it -2 to +6, instead of -20 to +60. Does Wagamer support that?
My own report of +60/-20 ended up with +8/-8. Maybe the system doesn't care about the points entered anyway. [&:]

I think it's a good idea to write the email address we are going to use, so once the definitely list is made MrQuite can attach the emails as well.

Hmm, I'm not that fond of posting my email address in public, I'm getting enough spam already. [;)]
I don't think it's necessary though, the forum PM and email system can do the job as well.

Oh, and one other thing: You can find the email address of your opponent by looking into his profile at the wargamer site.
RE: 2007 GGWAW/AWD PBEM Tournament (rules)
Indeed spam is a pain in the neck, but since I allready get my mail filled with all kind of wonderful sex pills and wonderful oportunities to buy low price stock about to rocket their price, I just don't care anymore, besides the antispam program works fairly well and all spam mails are eliminated without reading.
Anyway I understand your point Gkar. I just thouhgt it would be faster to reach your opponent knowing directly his email.

I think I'm pretty decent too, and would like to know what odds i'm stacked against here [:D]. Would be nice to play a real game against Jan this time. Our one and only game was unfortunately with a not-so-balanced- WaW 1.... I like AWD much much better, no longer so ahistorical.

Believe me - I am unlikely to be anywhere near a top player now. I havent played a PBEM game in 4 months so I am very much out of the loop

Great to see a tournament in the making. I would just like to point out that there is a new 1.010 version that has been sent to Matrix and will likely be available for downloading sometime within the next week. I encourage you to use that version in your tournament (do not use 1.008 as it has the problem with the Spain event). If you start the tournament before the 1.010 version is available from Matrix, I will be happy to email files directly to you if you send an email to 2by3@2by3games.com. 1.010 has one simple fix that did not make it into 1.009 (regarding Portugal to Allies event) so those with 1.009 are almost up to date.

I am a bloody beginner. I only played the old game againts the AI (which was quite easy to beat).
Nevertheless I am looking forward to a couple of painful lessons [:'(]

Hi Joel:
I am definately hoping 1.010 is released before the tournament starts which is scheduled for this Friday night. Hopefully that is the case.

I wouldn't count on it getting out officially by Friday. I've already had a few people from the tournament email me to get the 1.010 version. Although it doesn't have an installer, it's only a few files (only the exe is important) so it's pretty easy for people to update their 1.008 version with the zip file I can email out.

RE: 2007 GGWAW/AWD PBEM Tournament (rules)
Would it be possible to attach the V1.010 zip file to the first posting of this thread as a temporary solution? Or would that cause concerns for 2by3 or Matrixgames?
Either way, I'd strongly recommend to start the tournament with the newest game version.

I would, but at 800k the attachment is too big.

How about a link to somewhere else then? I'd even have a place to host it for others to download if that's the problem. Of course that's a question of trust.
