DNO strategy

Post by philturco »

I'm finding DNO more challanging than FITE as axis mostly due to standard house rules that restrict RR engineer to only 3 repair per turn per west -east rail line. Having difficult time pushing east. Also only total 10 engineer repair regiments. I guess this is intended result but would be interested in hearing what others think. How about breaking down RR repair regiments?

In this particular scenario, there are two considerations with regard to breaking down the RR repair units;
a) you will get more overall RR repair capacity if you break them down
b) the house rule still applies- i.e. you can only have three sub-units on the rail line, not six or nine.

So it's a trade off: if you want to focus on one line, you need three full units. If you want to get a broader improvement, you should divide them. I'd suggest you'll probably want to use full units on one or two lines, then break the rest down.

On the subject of DNO, I downloaded this scenario last night but when I saved it as a TOAW III scenario, I got a bunch of errors in a text file in the folder. Is it playable as a TOAW III scenario?

Did the errors apply to events or...? [ some event errors can be fixed in the editor ]

They may affect how the PO playes a bit, they're setting the loss limit orders for the formations which affect his aggression. Other than that, there should be no affect. Let me know how it goes.

Daniel never programmed Elmer for this scenario. It is meant exclusively for PBEM play.

Those orders are for various formations that are in garrison or reserve status, for when they are released from those locked deployments.

I don't really understand how to do work with events, but is this something that is easy to fix if I open the event editor?

I think that the events will actually be correct. To check, compare the target formation in the COW and TOAW III versions of the event list.

I have been fiddling with this in toaw 3, and it seems the Hungarian and slovak units that start on map are not realeased when the news say they join the war.

Fiddling with the editor today. Trying to see whats up here. Event 2 is the release for the Slovak army, which doesnt happen, as far as i can see, because Elmer in his infinite wisdom changed the formation to the Soviet 22A instead. Fixed. Next one is the Hungarians joining the war. Fixed. So far so good!

Hum...The rest of the broken events have no news string attached, so without acow i cant say exactly what they do. Most seem to be related to the activation of Soviet factories for rail transport east, and one is about activating a Soviet army on the Turkish border i think.
