Question about French reinforcement entry location

Post by von Beanie »

In the standard 1775 scenario (PBEM), what happens if the British mass a large fleet in the coastal area that the French normally show up in? Does it delay the French entry, must they fight a sea battle first, or are the reinforcements immediately diverted somewhere else? I'm hoping this isn't a highly gamey tactic for PBEM, but I can't tell because the French haven't shown up yet and I can see a British fleet sitting in the standard reinforcement area.

It's indeed a gamey tactic [:@]

Normally, the French appear in the sea zone at the end of the reinforcement phase, which is right before the beginning of the turn BUT after battle resolutions... thus there won't be any immediate battle...

During her turn, the French fleet will most likely move away, and the odds the British catch her are low (unless lucky or clever anticipation of the French destination)...

I would really appreciate it if the designer of this fine game would revise the reinforcement routine for PBEM to let the American player choose one of three or four locations where the French reinforcements appear. This would prevent the British from specifically planning to interdict them because their entry location is fixed. It is already tough enough to play the American side and survive into late 1778--allowing the French to enter where they are most needed most would be a useful addition to improve the game (and to counter such a gamey maneuver by the British).

there is a similar discussion on the official BOA forum. All that is needed is to change the event, so that a list of a region and not a region is picked. See:
