Are repairs supposed to be so flakey?

Post by Psycho0124 »

Usually in any heavy engagement with enemy cruisers/destroyers, your ship is gonna get beat up a little. Its nice tho to be able to take a breather an get some systems back up and running before heading out to finish off that pesky destroyer squadron at the other side of the map. Unfortunately, sometimes a system seems to never get back to 100% despite all its componants showing as OK.

Im curious if this is a glitch or just part of the game. It seems like taking the time to let the repair crews repair/replace damaged componants that the system would be able to operate at 100%. Instead, often a freshly repaired system will go offline when being used even with everything checks out. I noticed there is a little indicator that appears on some systems power slider after theyve taken damage. Sometimes the indicator never rises at all when repairs/replacement is done.

Maybe my repair crews could use a few lashings.[:D]

repairs are just that...repairs.

a temporary fix...a patch...a workaround...by-passing and re-routing.

Baling wire and duct tape can only do so much...

more often then not a repaired component fails again, or another component in the system that was borderline fails...

being an electronics tech in real life has shown me that is the nature of electron flow...

You need to take care of it personally ;) Off the bridge and down to the dark bowels of your behemoth Starship Captain
Seriously though I would not have it any other way for realisms sake

I too work on electronics and have done more than my fair share of solder slinging. I can understand that rushing repairs is part of battle and honestly wouldnt want the repair reliability to change anyway. Replacing a borderline or damaged componant with a NEW one on the other hand shouldnt be so flakey. Maybe a second repair option for "Take your time and DO IT RIGHT" should be added to the repair buttons.[;)]

Taking on one of those Hegemeny Broadsword class Destroyers is hard enough with a fresh ship. When half your systems go offline the first shot you take makes a battle with those suckers a very nasty endeavor.[X(]

Hint: get behind it, target FUSION and fire. It's bit harder with starships becouse Broadsword reacts them by maneuvering around, but with Stormhawk or Thunderbolt it's piece of cake: only frigates react fighters with maneuvering, others are sitting ducks [:-]
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

I've noticed this too - It's a bit dodgy repairing your guns only to have them break down as soon as they're repaired. This has happened to a bunch of different parts. It was most annoying when it happened to the flight computer (or avionics). Couldn't steer my ship, gave it priority, it got repaired, half a second later it's back on the repair queue, same thing broken. Very silly.

Also, I've seen parts of something (say a gun) get repaired whilst other parts are yellow and in need of maintence but don't have any ordered. :?
