SP: Main battle tank

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

schrapnel games.com
It is similar to spwaw.
I do not play SPMBT so I cannot comment further.

SPMBT is built off different code.
So is SPWW2.

The split occurred way back in the dawn of SPWaW as well, so the two have led different lives for most of the life of SPWaW making them basically Steel Panthers, but it's like having the same mother but two fathers. And they live at different homes.

SP Camo is currently supported over at Shrapnel games and they have taken the game to actual Windows friendly evolutions finally. They are now properly referred to as WinSPMBT and WinWW2. Both also have purchasable CD versions (with better resolutions being a main offering along with other goodies).

It is safe to say, WinSPMBT currently rules squad level modern tactical wargaming in the turn using hexbased style.

Graphically, and over all feel wise, SPWaW and SP Camo's version have looked different for a long time though.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

SPWAW is based on source code of Steel Panthers 3 (someone has said SP4, but this is likely incorrect) while SPMBT and SPWW2 are based on souce code of Steel Panthers 2. SPMBT and SPWW2 have better compatibility with original SP and SP2 games, meaning you can convert old scenarios to those new ones (only maps can be converted for SPWAW). Anything else is like Sarge said. And link you asked:

It would be tricky having something based on a SP4. Considering there is no such game :)

The evolution goes Steel Panthers -> Steel Panthers 2 Modern Battles -> Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat. That's it, there was no SP4.

All the modified forms, are built off the above 3 original programs.

WinSPMBT is excellent, though at times i'm left to wonder if the "windows" friendly version of the game truely works better than the DOS based game. The recent patch helped clear up most of the sound delay issues experienced. The Infantry model is arguably better than the WAW version (as mentioned, based on the SP3 code which IMO has always been too enthusiastic to grant casualty results, now combined with the the rules changes revolving around pinned status and op fire)

There are still some issues with the OOB's

Becouse it never got done and existing source was thrown for betatesters who made SPWAW... or that is what is said (typed) in one post. Might just to dig it up.

The game was never built...the code wasn't used for SPWAW, either. SPWAW is built on the SP3 code, because it was Windows-compatable. You may have mis-read Paul's post: they were given the SP2 code to "play with", not any alpha-SP4 code.

You may have mis-read my post on that other thread (3 year old one): I did read Paul's post again (after 3 years) and realized my error.
