Looping sound effects in Divided Ground

I recently reinstalled this game to try out the Vietnam mod. I'm now experiencing a loop of sound effects in the game, in other words every time I fire a unit or move it, etc, I get the normal sound effect, and then it runs again and again and again until I do something else to trigger another sound.

I seem to recall that this happened years ago on the original game but for the life of me I can recall the fix. Does anyone remember?

This seems to occur now and again with Win XP, I just save, exit game then restart the game, a pain, but it works...

I fixed it by turning off sound hardware acceleration, well actually turning it down one notch. [:)]

I think I did that last time as well, but couldn't remember. Anyway this way if someone has the same problem later on this post will be here.
