Ok.........Ise and Hyuga vs 3 RN BBs............I escaped......Hyuga badly damaged by a 15inch shell.......30sys...30flt......one of the RN BBs was hit by a Torp........not badly damaged.........my units retire to Batavia.........

Then AAG 1 strikes........we hit one enemy CVE......but lose another 300 aircraft this turn......the landings go in and Benj....will fall.........

Speedy also crossed the river north of Moulmein........my supply line is cut.........the clock is ticking.........now....I'll just reach for these dice......one last roll...................

SAG 5 mid sea intercept......120 miles South/Southwest of Benj.......any guesses as to how many ships I sank....

It must be the Japanese thing. Allieds get clocking devices, IJN get bombs and torps delivered on schedule.

16th June 1944...............

Lost another 250 aircraft trying to hit Speedy's beachhead at Benj........hit 3 AKs.........

Speedy takes Benj.......this is a dagger into my vitals......as he can build this to a LVL 5 airfield.....and close Tarakan/Batavia.........and maybe Palambang.........my troops are retreating to Balikpapan ...wher the 2nd Div...and 35 army are moving from Tarakan to meet them........

The 71st Div.....has paid in PPs to transfer from China ...to SRA.....and will also move to Tarakan......ETA...three weeks........

Trusty was sunk by ASW off Singapore.......

Lunga was abandoned as the 81st NG left today......heading for the Phils........

A counter attack at the hex above Moulmein pushed the allies back across the river........my supply line holds .......for a while longer........

And last...but not least a glen spotted the CENPAC invasion force about 4 days out...just south of Wake.........subs will move to intercept........

My empire looks to be unravelling at alarming speed........SAG 1 is the only force on station....at Pelau........I may just send them in.....once I see which Island/s he is going for...........

17th June 1944...............

SAG 3 went in and attacked the Benj. beachhead...........and was met by 3 RN BBs.............My commander was surprised and this time the RNs shooting was very good.......3 combat rounds later........and I'd lost 4 DDs the CA Aoba and the CL Agano.........but I badly damaged the Revenge in the process............then.....much to my surprise........shock....and horror.....another 3 RN BBS appeared on the scene(I had no idea they were there)..........and all but wipped out SAG 3........CL Noshiro sunk......CA Kinugasa Sunk......another 3 destroyers sunk.......Hiei is limping back to Batavia......37 sys 35 flt..... alone and a sitting duck for his subs.......SAG 4 and 5 were supposed to go in at the same time.......but did not turn up........I'll now retreat them to Batavia.............a bad day for penguinkind...as a lack of co-ordination on my part.....and the skill of my opp...........leave me with one battlegroup less..........Speedy must be telling his troops they will be home for Christmas..........

18th June 1944........

AAG 2 moved on Benj. today to find it's airfield in full working order...and P-47s and Lightnings on station.....ah well....another 150 aircraft gone ...........AAG 2 retreats to Devao.......

Lost an I-boat to the incoming CENPAC force.....but I've moved more on station.......

Oh....for a bit of luck.......just a morsel..........Thread knows I need it......

I'm Also moving 2nd Para to northern Borneo....I'm wide open here......and fear Speedy will move at great pace to exploit my weakness.........

19th -20th June 1944.........

I've lost 6 I-boats and a RO-boat to Speedy's incoming CENPAC invasion force............I've hit 1 AK......the rest of the subs will now pull back to try and pick off any cripples from the Invasion.........

SAG 1 is retiring back to Pelau.....to send it in would be a suicide mission....and I don't think it has come to that quite yet.......

SAG 4 is going back to Banj........according to my recon groups 4 of the RN BBs have returned to Timor.......leaving only 2......so Ise and 3CA will head in....1-2 is good odds for the Japs at this stage......

I did sink a US sub.........

and more good news.....Franks have accelrated 1 month...and will be available in 10 days time.............too late I think.........

Tommorow the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot begins..........the next 3 turns should yeild another 1,500 air losses.........but to what gain?

But then the main event ..........Speedy's CENPAC invasion force comes within range of my airfields.......and my crack 80+ exp. pilots......the cream of a generation of young men........the first strike went in........

OK....I laughed.......800 + planes on CAP....dear Thread......all dead..............dead.....then another 2 Strikes went in....dead.........then 6 ...bits and pieces went in .........dead...............dead.....dead........

Oh, well.............all airgroups are now pulling out of the Marianas....I'll lose another 400 aircraft before I can get them all out .........but at least I now know that even with my best airgroups(now dead)....there is no way through the CAP......................

SAG 4 was hit by bombers from Banj.....as my LRCAP was socked in........no bad damage.....but they will retire to Batava.........

I looked to my staff for suggestions........but they all appear to have gone......no doubt to plan the next phase....but it is odd that they have taking all their belongings with them..............

never start a PBEM without stacking rules. AF size x50 for land and max 450 carrier planes in one hex (=5 Essex class carriers) is the one I go in all my PBEMs. If I wouldn´t have stacking rules and an opponent of mine would come up playing with such a cap (actually this is the highest carrier cap I´ve ever seen in years of playing) I would pass him my surrender - no sense to play actually IMO. [:-][8|]

I know the Allied players are always claiming that they have to take on a Jap death star early on, but that´s no comparison. A Jap deathstar can be hurt (many games showed that) but an Allied death star with 900+ fighters on CAP??????

I´m sorry to see that as I enjoyed reading both Speedy´s and your AAR.

Hi castor.........in my shock I miscounted.......your right..over 900 aircraft on CAP........700 of them Hellcats.........to be fair to Steven....we started this game very early on before all the late war A2A problems were apparent.......so we never had a house rule concerning stacking.....so he is playing within the spirit of this game.......I'll carry on....as Steven has played well....and deserves his day of triumph marching through Tokyo.........though I'll dread to see what the end score will be......with all the aircraft I've been losing............Steven has yet to run this turn ...so I'll be interested to hear his thoughts on the CAP #s..............

Even I think this is silly... He can't possibly have left all his VF's on 40% CAP for this...

Unfortuantely he can radar scrambles all remaining fighters no matter your CAP setting if they are not committed to offensive ops. It means if your strikes don't launch you will get most of your fighters in the air at one time no matter your CAP setting.
 
For my game with PZB I am operating at 50% CAP maximum and I get full deck launches on occasion - the only advantage is that more of the fighters are climbing and not ready to intercept but with the numbers above thats pretty irrelevant
 
I HAD to adopt a stacking rule for my game with PZB which is I wont stack more than 4 USN CV's in one hex (unlike Castor's rule I dont limit CVL's or CVE's) so I typically have 2 - 4 CV's and 2 - 4 CVL's plus whatever CVE's are escorting the actual invasion TF.
 
Since I adopted that rule results have been a lot more realistic

Hi guys.....soryy for the Delay.......we are now up to the 26th June 1944..........I'll just skip through the highlights of the last few days........to get you up to date.......

Marianas...........Speedy has split his CVs into 3-4 CV per group TFs......but after my Firts airstrike.....I lost all my Marianas airgroups.......those not destroyed against the 900 CAP...were all damaged.....so the last 2 days I've 300 more aircraft destroyed on the ground.....none were in good flying condition......

His BBs have bombarded Saipan twice....and my mines sank 2 DDs one turn ...and badly damaged 1 CA....and lightly damaged a CL and another CA........

I've lost 4 subs......off the Marianas.....

I've badly damaged at least 3 of his subs.....

I lost another AO........off Kuching......

18 of Speedys Superforts were shot down over Balik.........I knew he would Sweep the next turn so I've withdrawn all Southern Borneo Airgroups.......

His Paras are trying a swift move up the west side of Borneo....Sampit has been taken.......and his Paras Landed at Sanka...?...to the west of Kuching.....to be met by the 2nd Para regiment......he'll need to reinforce if he hopes to take it as a TK REg.is 2 days out........
