I noticed that team news shows when a player is released, but not a signing.

Not sure if im missing something or not.

If the player was taken in the draft, it won't show on the team news. Otherwise the news would be flooded with draft data. This is probably why the players release was reported, but not his signing.

Maybe I'm reading into it, but I thing Gary meant the player was signed off the waiver wire/free agent pool

Yep, I signed a player from the FA list, week 2. Then later released him.
The release showed but the signing never did.
