Praise and a few mod questions

Post by Johan_Banér »

Lovely game, it's one of those "Just one more turn" and all of a sudden it's five in the morning and almost time to go to work.

Now a few questions.

1. Is it possible to reduce the strength cap on brigades? If so where is it done?

2. Is it possible to increase the number of brigades an army my contain? If so where is it done?

3. What would be the effect of me modding every general to have a one hundred percent chance of appearing? And is there a cap on how many generals you may have at any one time? If so is it possible to increase that cap?

And yes this is my first post, I like to lurk [;)]

The game would end before you got to see all 1000 generals. If you want to give them all an equal chance of appearing then put them all at 9%, not 100%. (And if you're wondering, those generals at 200% are really at 100% -- we had to do it that way so that 100-percenters would have a 100% chance of appearing in "Fewer Generals" games.)

I made all army and corps commanders 100-percenters, division commanders 25-percenters, and brigade commanders 9-perecenters. You get planty of generals even without the more generals option.

Thank you! You saved my day.

Now I can get historically correct armies!

ANV

Notice the numbers of ANV is close to what it was at the onset of the Manassas campaign.
True the ANV didnt have three corps at this point, but two wings instead (Longstreet's and Jackson's). But this looks a bit better and is somewhat more effecive.

The only problem now is that I don't have enough promotions [:(]

Thank you. And as not to show any favouritism here is the AOP from the same game.

It's so large that I had to take two screenshots.

The strength of it is still a bit large (around 120K) but it hasn't seen any combat, and has hardly been hit by disease at all. But it is still better then it would have been in vanilla.

The one thing now that is the problem now is the ability, or rather lack of, to promote commanders. The limitation of only one promotion per turn is in this case extremly limitating.

Was McClellan ever a 5 star or did you just promote him that high? and I agree about the promotion schedule. Why only one per turn?

I had to promote someone to that and it was either him or Halleck. And no I don't think he ever had that high a rank.

Two stars was the most a union general could get until Grant got his third. The stars in the game represent what size force a general commanded, not his rank. McClellan, Halleck, Grant, and Sherman would in my opinion be 5 star leaders in this game. They were all in charge of multiple armies at some point, although McClellan and Halleck weren't very good at it.

About the limitation of one promotion per turn, I hope that is something that will be changed in the new patch. I think Gil or someone may have already said something to that effect. I'll post the suggestion on the Wish List, so it does not get lost.

Yes, in the next patch you can promote or demote as many generals as you want each turn and to any rank you want. The limit is only determined by your academies.

However, demotions do cause a "hit" with the governor of the general's state. Also, there is now a 50% chance that a demoted general will resign. Finally, if you are playing with randomized/hidden stats, there is a chance that promoting a general will alter some of his stats slightly.

Three very nice changes! Will both facilitate promotions and add a "bite" to the decision.

Even with 30 academies you can only have 33 2 star Generals, 17 3 star, 8 4 star and of course 1 5 star.. This is with the current games arrangement on minimum allowed and x number per every academy ( basicly it is easiest to thin in groups of 5).

I doubt many people build that many academies , especially if using vanila rules and no mods, there just isnt enough resources to do that and have anything else in great numbers. It also means you have used up 27 building slots in your cities that can never be used for anything else.

Academies are a good thing for determining the status of the staffs on the containers, but the limits as set are VERY poor for the actual game. I would suggest a MAJOR increase on at least 2 stars and would also request an increase on 3 Stars.

That OR allow one stars to lead Divisions as well as 2 Stars. Maybe with a penalty in combat against their ability to rally.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Of course, the next patch also ups the number of ranks supported by each academy. [8D]
