Stars.exe

I have tried to retarget the launch file for Starshatter to the Stars.exe, but I am having some trouble. When I go into properties in the desktop shortcut and click on Stars.exe, I get a message saying that this is an invalid target. If I try to copy and paste the Stars.exe file onto my desktop, I get an error log sying that the game was inproperly installed, check the CD and CD Key. What am I doing wrong?

The correct EXE name is "Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe", the "Star.exe" was installed by an early release patch the Destroyer Studios supplied directly without notifying us.

I would strongly recommend you redownload and reinstall the v.5.01 patch from our Games section or the Members Area.

Bahh.. You shoudlnt need to redownload anything. Open up your game folder and right click stars.exe. From the menu that shows up, select copy. Now go to your desktop and right click on some empty space. Select "Paste SHORTCUT". Now you should see an icon labeled "Shortcut to Stars.exe". Just rename this to whatever you like (you do not need to keep the .exe extension) and delete the old one. As far as i know the patch files itsself is the same and it is only the name of the file they got wrong. 

Marc, the name on the executable is irrelivant. Also the filesize is the same for both patch executables. Suggesting he download another patch when all he wanted was help creating/modifying a shortcut seems a little excessive. I guess at just under 2 MB It wouldnt be such a big deal but creating a new shortcut would be faster and easier.

The EXE name is relevant if you start the game via the "Game Menu". If you do so and have the "unofficial" patch installed the menu will simply not start he correct EXE.

So basically to anybody that did install the "unofficial" patch I still recommend to update with the official one.
Simply to avoid misunderstandings.

ok, so then what site goes to the "offical" patch.  I downloaded off 2006 DEC 20 - Starshatter TGS: Patch v.5.01 (3.5mb) (hosted at FileFront)
this site.  Is this not an offical site?

How did all these "un-official" patches get released? I would bet that most people just google "starshatter gathering storm patch download" to find the patch they need. 9 times out of 10 this is going to point them to a patch that isnt going to work. Perhaps people shoudl start contacting thse sites and talking them into updating to the correct patch?
