I think the best is when the player has the choice between sprites and counters, makes everybody happy [:)]

Actually it looks quite a bit like the WW1 game by SPI.

Especially the map.

is that overview map showing the entire mapboard, or is there more terrain to the south? I would have liked to see the Palestinian and Arab (Iraq, for Kut) areas as well.

It looks like both Mesopotamia (Iraq) and Palestine are being added... great news for those of us interested in those theatres and it means the game will cover all main theatres of the war. [:)]

I also have an old AH copy of this game. Just for the record, my wife is not allowed to touch games![:)]
I think rail roads should be visible. During the war they were critical for logistics to supply the armies. They were also the route the germans used to drive into russia after the commies took over.
Personally I like the counters as shown. In the original game it was not always easy to tell an x from a \ at a glance. Especially when they were stacked high and deep on the western front!

Just a note, this is not a remake of the AH game. This is an entirely new design about the same conflict.

Erik,

Since we are still waiting, can we get some newer screenshots?

Thank you

That's good, because my buddies and I had a standing joke that if we wanted to kill some substantial time and get very little done we'd say, "want to play a quick game of '1914'?"

I think that this is great. This is my favorite section of WWI. I think that this is one of the reasons that I liked GoA less than the World in Flames WWI game: Fatal Alliances. I know that this GoA will be different from the AH board game, but this is a great addition.

Kudos!

Are the overlay maps floating, to see underneath them if needed, or will it not be a problem, ie hiding something one needs to see?

No they are not floating or moveable, but there's nothing to "see" underneath them either - the only time what is on the map is relevant is when you're reinforcing troops, and that's no longer an overlay - the buttons, etc are now in the bottom margin and you can see the whole map when doing it, with hte unit in question highlighted.

all the otehr overlays are for strategic purposes.

The buttons do allow you to toggle the view of resources and visibility of forces.
