Feature or Bug?

Post by Veers »

Over at XG we're ahving alittle discussion on Helicopter movement.
Basically, when a helicopter unit (or troops being trasnported by helos) moves the enemy is freely allowed to intercept and demolish that moving unit without a response from friendly aircraft. However, when a unit boarded onto aircraft moves friendly aircraft are allowed to protect said unit.
The question would then be, "Should not friendly aircraft defend helicopter units as they do troops being transported by aircraft?"
The discussion is here: http://www.xtreme-gamer.com/forums/oper ... w-iii.html

For consistency's sake, they should both behave the same. We'll look into what's going on, but it'll probably be too late to make it into the next patch.

As long as there is a patch after this next one, no problems. :D

I took a quick look, and it looks like the helicopters are supposed to use their own defense strength.

Ouch. Should not the friendly AF provide cover?

Another strange behaviour of helicopters spotted ( in COW).

Normally you cannot transport helicopters by train. But if you put them in a stack with ground units and choose embark group, then they become entrained and can move by rail.

If they are struck by interdiction during their rail movement they retain their entrained movement allowance, but are suddenly able to leave the railroad tracks and move cross country.

Strange....

And not only that. It is possible to rail a helicopter unit also if no land unit is stacked together with it. It is even possible to leave the railline after moving one hex over rail and the helis stay embarked! To top this you can even disembark them the same turn at any location! (Also observed in COW)

Now, the question is... You can do the same thing with embarking helos on ships... Bug or feature??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Very funny. Very good point. However, you can move an embarked helo 50 units by train and then 50 units cross country, so it does need some fixing.
