RE: Lunga is liberated... Allied troops capture Tavoy

Post by Rob Brennan UK »

I'm getting deja-vu reading this.

1) bombing bangkok
2) capturing Lunga
3) advancing into thailand

Seems like my game about 1 month in advance [;)]

Nowt to add gamewise , but you'd best finish this before the 2nd arrival[:D], frankly with working/wife/toddler and another coming i'm flabberghasted you have time to play it let alone do an AAR as well[&o]

and as ever , good luck.
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Hi Rob! [:D]

It does have an familiar doesn't it? [:D]

I think the "2nd" arrival will beat me to it! [8|] The odds are not in my favour![:(][:D] ...but I will never surrender.

The arrival date for baby no.2 is 8th of June allthough it should be a bit earlier than since my wife will have to go through surgery.

...oh, and I have promised FDR 100% guaranteed rematch using his Mod when this is done... and it will be a while before that happens.

As for the game itself .... [:D]

I have also given greenlight to operation SeaHorse.

The operation SeaHorse is a amphibitous invasion plan of Marianas. This is scheduled to happen in late November or in December 1944!!!

The forces preparing/involved with this operation are huge. Several US Divisions and hundreds of AK/AP ships. Along with the main CV Fleet and strong BB fleet.

More on this as the things progress. (The troop loading has already started)

The ZOC blockade has forced me to my troops back to Tavoy! [:(][:(][:(]

My troops just refused to march towards Malaya Peninsula nor did they want to march towards Bangkok.

Operation SeaHorse gathers pace. Troops and supplies are almost loaded. Allied CV fleet should reach Kwaleijin within next turn or two. There they will replenish and will head out to sea immediately escorting the huge Allied invasion task forces!

Intresting days ahead. Thankfully those bases at Marianas are not Atolls.

It should be intresting times ahead.

FDR emailed that his submarines spotted transport heading towards Marianas! He informed that the bases are heavily fortified! [8|]

The question is should I rethink this operation or go ahead with it???

I cannot support this operation by LBA cover. Views appreciated... [;)]

Victoria Point captured... Tassafaronga falls.

Post by aztez »

The operations SeaHorse is not cancelled at least not yet!

Here is the mail I received this morning from FDR:

"One of my submarines spotted and torpodoed a troop transport in the Marshalls heading West. My guess is that you are heading to the Marianas, likely Saipan, Guam, or both.

As I'm sure you suspect, these areas are heavily fortified, well-supplied, and will be tough to take. It is about to get very bloody!

Will I commit my navy to battle? Hmm"

Lets just say that the target is not yet decieded.... and I can withdraw If I choose to do so.. but after next turn this will be too late.

Game date is 26th of October 1944

Well... FDR was very disappointed by the last turns events! [:(]

His LBA's launched from Saipan agants My CV TF's and these enemy pilots were shot down. (Also my BB's hammered his airfields)

I feel for him though... but if I lower my to 30-40% I would be committing an suicide. [:(] I have my CV's set on 50-70% CAP depending on an vessel and mission objective... and as said it would be suicide to lower this with these kind of operations.

FDR made an mistake also... he put his aircraft on a single base (Saipan) instead he should have build up Tinian and Guam too....and have reserves on hand at Palau island chain. That way he could have consumed my flying op points and thus get way better results.

Anyway, here is the turn.

RE: Japanese launch operation Red Dragon... KB shows up at Marianas!

Post by aztez »

FDR admitted that he has so far lost 3 CVE's and huge amount of pilots with operation Red Dragon.

As for allied losses so far few DD's and punch of transport shipping is lost/badly mauled.

The idea behind this Japanese operation was to slow me down and partly FDR has succeeded with this goal. If he had time to garrison Tinian properly than this would have been much worse for me due to the lack of LBA cover.

Draw is good estimate FDR made but without revealing too much the show is not over just yet!!! I'am not satisfied with an "draw"! [:-][;)]

These actions totalled +50 enemy ships confirmed sunk and +300 aircraft either lost in the ground or air.

Next turn should be intresting! Why? If my intel is correct Osaka has +450 enemy ships docked and Propably has BB Yamamoto + co. there too.

This has resulted into operation Lightning!!! Allied CV Fleet will strike againts Osaka next turn and B29's will make an harbour attack from China too! Either this is huge victory for me or total disaster!!! [8|] ...We shall see soon.
