Hitting print-screen on your keyboard pastes a screenshot into your clipboard. Open Paint or any other graphic program and hit paste to dump this screenshot into a file. However this works only with one screenshot at a time. This small and free program automates this tedious process:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/screenassist/

Run the program (no installation needed) and simply hit print-screen as often as you want. All screenshots are dumped as files in a directory of your choice.

Editing screenshots: you can add text and arrows with Paint, a bit more sophisticated is Paint.net (it's also free), but there's a learning curve:

Some people just do a print screen, others have a programme to catch the shots. I use Snagit(costs money but I like it). They then use a paint type programme (paint being the most basic) to annotate and 'jazz' it up. Free paint type programmes that are better than windows paint are Paint.net or The Gimp. If you have any Paintshop/Photoshop type that will work even better. Again I use the features in Snagit and have modified stuff using photoshop also.

If you have a copy of Photoshop elements i did a 'How to' a while back that I can send to you if you like.

stick it in a folder and then upload it ... but check the size beforehand. I normally use less than 800 pixcels width.....

Just click 'click here to upload'

Only one pic per posting though.

Try jpeg.

If you want to attach multiple images to a post you can upload your files for free to a site like www.imageshack.us and then post the links in image-tags.

Interesting, GIF is traditionally the much smaller file and I've not noticed a particular degradation of quality.....

Roger, it's probably because I was using the cheezy MSPaint program that came with WinXPHome...
