Can I patch straight from 1.5 to 1.8???

If the patch is the 1.800 or 1.804 comprehensive patch you can. If in doubt, the size of the patch zip file should be >70MB and usually has Comp in the file name.

I'm in the middle of a game using ver. 1.60.  Can I upgrade mid-game without messing things up?  Do I want to?

If I'd have to start over again, I'd be inclined to just leave it for now unless there is a big reason to change.  I'd hate to have to restart.  It's taken me a long time to get 8 months into the game.

Upgrading is not a problem unless it is a PBEM game. IF it is see this thread tm.asp?m=848832 for the proper sequence.

Thanks tanjman.  It's not a PBEM game.  I'm in over my head against the AI as it is at this point, without having to face a crafty human.

Yes, if it's against AI, always upgrade to latest patch...especially from 1.60 and older. 1.80+ patches kill the annoying leader bug (dissapearing leaders and so) and lot more.
