I guess I'd better start a counter-point AAR to Moses' Allied flavor ...

Later I'll post the start up sequence .. house rules etc. I can't look as his AAR (and he can't look at mine) so if I wind up repeating something he's already posted, sorry.

But first an update ... I won't go back to the beginning ... we did use "historical start" probably a rarity these days for most games .. but the Pearl Strike was pretty anemic ... in the mean time the main focus is of course in the SRA area ... so two weeks in .. here is an annoted combat report ...

I can't picture why anyone would have that many ships in Amboina port at one time, unless they were planning to evacuate.

Well no "bodies in the water" ... so why in the multitudinous TFs? If just defensive split why not all singles? If either bringing in or loading troops, should've been bodies in the water .. not enough resources to evac ... can't load oil on AK ... maybe just bringing in or removing supply?

But regardless, looks like defense has shifted to Kendari.

Ok, I said I would lay out our "start up" process, so here goes.

First, both Moses and I agreed that either of us would play either side.

Then we agreed that we would determine the "house rules" before we picked sides. Our thinking was that this would produce the most balanced set of house rules. At least within the limits of our knowledge.

BTW, one thing we learned about each other during our discussions is that we are both US Army vets and we are both Math majors!!! Probablyl a dangerous combination [:D]

Ok, so here were the house rules we agreed to, before we picked sides.

House Rules

(1) VPs are not determinate of victory.

(2) Asian Mainland Borders. General Idea, units may not cross Chinese borders unless PP are paid (to put the units into an unrestricted command or unless they are already in an unrestricted command). So this means for example that Kwangtung Army units may not enter China proper without paying PP and that Japanese Chinese command units may not leave China without Paying PP and that Chinese units may not leave China without paying PP, etc.

(3) PDU on (note I've never played with this on!?)

(4) Russia is totally inactive until Aug 1945, nothing goes in, nothings goes out, no planes fly missions, etc.

(5) First turn will be "Historical" , i.e. no moves by either side (you just key in your password and save!! Really quick first turn!)

(6) ASW TFs may contain up to six vessels.

(7) Combat TF size must be rational. For example, in one hex, 50 TFs of one PT boat each, would absolutely not be rational. Generally combat TFs should be around 8 vessels, more is fine. Lots of little TFs will be candidates for an abuse allegation.

(8) No LCU may ride aboard subs.

(9) Sub "in" ports, ok.

(10) Allied damage control "on".

After this agreement, we had some further discussions and determined that I would play Japanese and he would play Allies, and so here we go!

I had seen the lack of casualties caused by the air attacks, but still can't picture any other reason for so many AKs there. My only thought is that your TF arrived one day before he planned to embark...

Color isn't the problem, the jpeg compression is corrupting the quality. Be sure to avoid saving a jpeg several times at 90% compression rate (the default value in most graphic programs). Of course if you're using Paint you can do nothing about it, since you cannot alter the compression rate in Paint. In that case I recommend you download Paint.net:

Yup, using paint, so will switch to white background, that seems to work better.

Here is current situation in Celebes. Lots and lots of Allied subs out there.
