I would say that depends on how many they move in. From memory there were six Chinese divisions committed to the Burma campaign, with three fully committed, and three more being held back by Chiang as a "reserve" (I am sure someone will jump in and correct this if my memory is as bad as it usually is).

So depending on your interpretation of what players should be free to do vs their historical counterparts, you could say that using more than three Chinese divisions would be gamey, or using more than six divisions would be gamey. Free-for-all players, on the other hand, would be happy using as many as they could.

I'd say it is unless you pay the PPs to move them.

I also thought that, because Japan cannot move (house rules) China units to Kwantung area and vice-versa without paying PPs.

There are chinese units that are assigned to Southeast Asia command right from the start. These represent the chinese units that were allocated for the defense of Burma. imho

I agree with Mke Hall on this. The units are under SEAsia command, so they are fair game for Burma. In fact, to play them in China (without transferring them to China Command) would be violating the house rules that many folks use...

Not gamey at all. China was dependent on supplies flowing through Burma. Strategically it is very important to keep that road open

Speaking of which -

Are the supplies cut off when Lashio is contested or does it have to be captured? I've never tested this...

Secondly shouldn't the supplies be cut the minute Rangoon is captured/isolated as, IIRC, technically the Burma Road ran from Rangoon through Lashio into China.

here is my understanding:

Burma road: Myitkyina-Yunan; Myitkyina-Mandalay-Lashio-Yunan

so capturing both Lashio and Mandalay doesn't mean that Burma road is closed down.

You should capture Myitkyina or Yunan or have at least one unit on the road between these two bases to cut off burma road.

Could be wrong too...

Generally accurate, except I would add the contingincy that it also depends on how "gamey" your opponant is being. If 5 Jap Divisions are heading into Burma by the end of December, then feel free to bring in every Chinese you can find. If it's the historic two Divisions, then try to limit youself to a historic response.

I am playing the Allied campaign vs. Japan AI. China is under computer control
(don't like playing with China). After a week of watching Chinese air power do
nothing, I brought a China bomber group to the Southeast Asia theatre to help
tide the flow of Japanese ships into the "Bay of Bengal" Works for me !!!
I am about to bring more because the amount of British bombers in early 1942
leaves much to be desired...

There are 9x Chinese Divs that are assigned to SEAC at the start of the game. Since it takes forever to march them into Burma (like they did historically, altho I'm not sure if all 9 actually went), I actually airlift them.

I march them all to Chengtu, and then airlift them into Ledo.

I end up using about 4 squadrons of transports (a motley collection of the RDAF flights the RAF and USAAC squadrons), roughly 64 planes. It takes about 2 weeks per division (so the whole endeavor takes about 4 months). The Chinese divisions are “light” tho, meaning they don’t have heavy artillery to get left behind, so the whole division will transport.

They certainly can’t stand up to an IJA Div. But I use them to hold the line at Imphal-Kohima-Ledo. I figure there’s not “surprise” if IJA goes over-land thru Burma, so the Chinese divisions can watch the frontier, while my British-Commonwealth-Indian formations are use for any “real” fighting (usually at Akyab or for repelling invasions along the coast).

Now, all of my PBEM games, we have house-rules that keep China from getting out hand (basically it’s a back-water, and is mostly training for Japanese pilots). So I don’t *need* the 9 divisions in China. If your game is PBEM with China as a fully active front, you’re probably losing (as Chinese), and the last thing you want to do is send away 9 divisions.

-F-

** and I do not consider it a good expendature of Political Points to convert a Chinese Divison or Corps. They pretty much suck. Better to spend the points to convert a Kiwi Bde than a Chinse Div.

You have some nerve accusing ME of "gamey" play.

For the record, the only Chinese divisions in Burma are the ones that start the game assigned to SE command.

Face the facts: you have finally found an opponent that isn't a push-over....[8D]

Im in 7/44 right now (started the Grand Campaign as Allies at 12/41 vs AI). I marched the Chinese units to Lashio, took it. The main Japanese force in Burma tried to push into India, and left most of the Burma bases undefended. The Japanese forces were wiped out except the 55th Inf Div, which was taken out by the Chinese units after a while. The taking of Lashio by the Chinese was a turning point in the Burma theater. Because of supply cutoff, Ive been able to surround Bangkok, take Ban Don (via paradrop), and generally force the Japanese down the Malay Peninsula. The lack of Japanese units also made Sumatra easy game for the Prov Tank Battalions and other units. Singapore gets wacked quite often from the size 4 airbases in Sumatra.

Using the Chinese forces in an "accidentally" fortunate action made things quite easy....

Yes, that was me. He used the KB on Dec. 7th to hunt and sink the US CV's, and then denied that it was any thing other than an fortunate accident.

So, imagine my surprise when "John Hawker" turns out to yet another of the seemingly endless supply of players from tiny Croatia.[X(]

So at that point, I had no choice, but to rededicate my life to teaching these Croat 'Japanese fan boys' a lesson in allied fighting spirit....[:D]
