All the MOVED threads
I understand the need for the forum mods to keep discussion in each forum on topic, but this stinks from my perspective. We have a unique community here, certainly one that is different from the larger Matrix camp. I feel like we all have a bit more in common than we do with the other Matrix gamers, and some common interests like baseball and sports games in general.
Now we can only talk about things not-Puresim in the general forum? Meh. No thanks. I couldn't care any less about war games, tanks and submarines, so I have no interest in the general board. I know that Matrix is doing Shaun a favor by keeping the board running even though he has stopped official development, but I would still lobby Matrix to allow us to talk about whatever we wanted in this forum. Maybe if we just start these posts with an "Off-Topic" tag or something??

RE: All the MOVED threads
I completely agree with PadresFan. The only reason I came over to this forum was because Shaun moved the PureSim forum here. As a result I purhased several other matrix products. Matrix should be thanking Shaun for the extra business.
RE: All the MOVED threads
I respectfully disagree with Padresfan. Having a thread with a competitors official announcement of their new editions release date would give me the impression, if I were new to the Puresim community, that Puresim is not being sold anymore and I should look elsewhere for a baseball sim.
The sports game genre thread gives the same impression starting out saying something like due to Shauns official announcement about Puresim everyone's looking for a new game to play implying to someone new that they should be spending their game buying cash on another sports sim other than Puresim.
As far as I know Puresim is still being sold by Matrix and at least for me it is still my preferred sports sim.

RE: All the MOVED threads
I agree with moving the thread. This is the puresim forum. I don't think we should be announcing competitor's games here. Sure, like others here, I own more than one sim, but I only talk about puresim here and the other one on their forums. Seems right to me.
RE: All the MOVED threads
And anyway, just because something is in the general forum, doesn't mean you have to read every thread. Just the ones that interest you.

Yeah, but I don't see myself reading a forum where only a small percentage of threads interest me. I have no problem with the OOTP thread being moved, but then the other sports game related threads (like "Favorite games in the genre") were moved as well. Like I said, I respect the moderators decision to keep the forum on topic.
My point was that it stinks from the standpoint that we have a certain group of people here that share a common passion for sports games, and baseball in particular. This used to be OUR forum. Hell, Shaun even talked about competitors products in this forum before. (Remember when he told us to check out Baseball Mogul?). Not once before Shaun's recent announcement was made, did a thread get MOVED.
Anyway, the more I think about it the threads DO belong in the general forum. I'm just bummed that we can't use this space to share information as a baseball/sports gaming community.

RE: All the MOVED threads
Hi guys,
I moved the threads because it's our policy that when it comes to discussing other games (that don't have their own forum on this site), that goes in the general discussion forum. In the past, Shaun did much of the moderation here and he may have done it differently, but this is how the other forums on our site work.
The goal is not to kill discussion at all, just to keep things here on topic and also to encourage people to come out of their sub-forums once in a while. [;)]
Regards,
- Erik

To Erik:
The Pure-Sim community used to have its own home, so the transition to Matrix proceeded in fits and starts.
I'm fully aware of Matrix' policy on discussion of other publishers' games, but this group of guys are baseball fans, not necessarily wargame fans (this gamer is both).
I hope that general topics on baseball (history, finances, strategy etc) will be left here. These certainly shouldn't be dumped into the General Discussion forum.
The desire of the company to encourage "cross-pollination", so to speak, should work both ways, IMHO.
Best regards,
Glenn

RE: All the MOVED threads
Well I guess I am the bad guy here because I posted the info about HOW to find out about the new version of OOTP. However it was pretty common for those of us who lived on these forums to discuss other games and keep each other informed on what was happening in the sports sim community. The very last thought in my mind was to take business away from Shaun and Matrix...........because the guys here always had posts and comments on other games. I was not "selling" a competitors game, I was supplying a link to look into what they were doing. Anyway I know I am going to miss these forums and the great guys who were regular posters and huge fans of the PureSim game!! Right now I am just in a general funk that my game is no more....

Dneely, I don't think the game is "no more". I fully believe that Shaun WILL return to it -- he as much said so. No reason to be in a funk. The game is NOT dead. It's here, to be enjoyed and hopefully to attract new customers.
C'mon, man, I don't feel like we're attending a wake. We mustn't give the impression that PS is an incomplete product. It is fully playable and solid as it presently exists. Anything more is just icing on the cake.

KG, I have to agree with you. Pure Sim will continue, and Shaun will continue to tweek from time to time. And those tweeks will keep things fresh, while we anjoy a game that is great right now.

KG Erwin:
I think I said I love PureSim and play it as much as possible. The game is super enjoyable in its current state and completely playable. I also will break out of my current funk, but since it is apparently going to become freeware and that Shaun will support and update it from time to time I meant the true further development of the game has ended! And that really saddens me!!In my humble opinion that is a real major loss for the sports sim community because Shaun is such a class act, had a game on the verge of becoming truly awesome and because I enjoyed the banter, conversation and enjoyment I derived from this board.
This is all very theraputic for me! and the other guys here at the home like the game too [8D]

I have to completely agree with PadresFan here. Some of the newer gamers to this forum don't know the history some of us have had over the years discussing any and everything in OUR own forum. We moved over here when Shaun joined Matrix but we've always talked about other sport sims, compared them, discussed our other favorite sim games etc.. I remember Shaun telling us to go buy and check out BM & I know he told us to checkout Gary's Total Pro Golf sim which I still have yet to purchase. But Shaun and this community has always been open to checking out all sports sims. Hell I own OOTP, Baseball Mogul, Puresim, TPB2005, FBCB, FBPB and I plan on buying DDSPB, TCB, TPG & possibly Maximum Football.. and thanks to that thread about "Favorite Games In The Genre" I'm considering purchasing EHM even though I'm not much of a hockey fan. It's discussions like these that help all the developers/companies get new lifelong fans like this community is.
