Define "similar". [;)]

Two classics, the Close Combat and Combat Mission series started off as Squad Leader conversions, but ended up as something rather different (and, in all honesty, rather better suited to computer play). There has been one official 'Squad Leader' game you could probably still find on eBay that was complete crap. There's another one being developed by Paradox (of Hearts of Iron fame) that may, or may not, also be complete crap. The closest thing I can think of in feel is the HPS 'Squad Battles' series, but they aren't really that similar either, because of scale if nothing else.

Sure, there's VSQL (Virtual Squad Leader) and then there's VASL (Virtual ASL).

Don't waste your time with an AI from a game that couldn't possibly match the wits of a live opponent. VSQL/VASL support both live play and pbem vs other human opponents (only).

While we are waiting for the lawyers and the accountants (to name a few), I highly recommend VASL! And, it is free too!

There are some obvious legacies from Squad Leader in Close Combat, like the prolific use of half squads and infantry smoke grenades (the latter is probably not very realistic in either game).
