I can read and the manual lists the space as the select/deselect stack key, doesn't seem to work when trying to move whole stack...........how do u do it?????

Hmm it worked in the old games.  Are you sure you're hitting the correct "space" button?

Each unit moves separately. Each unit can have a movement bonus based on its HQ... some HQ don't provide the bonus and some do.

This shows up most vividly in a stack of two identical units (same type, moral, strength, and movement capability) but assigned to differenct HQ's... when near enemy lines, one can penetrate the line and the other cannot.

What about amphib landings as in BIN where u could land a whole stack at once?????

You can't move a whole stack at once, even in amphibious landings. I won't pretend that this feature won't be missed from time to time. However, the previous stack move feature caused massive problems on land, where units could end up stuck in illegal terrain or get extra moves that they weren't really entitled to.

These problems were inherent in the stack move system, and Roger refused to start work on Battlefront unless we agreed to an individual move system. (He knows we can't just sack him and easily get another programmer with 28 years of wargames experience!)

Getting rid of stack moves gaves us some much needed interface room and those interface changes meant we couldn't retain it for amphibious moves.

So its swings and roundabouts really. Amphibious turns will take a little longer but the move system is much more robust and the unit interface has been improved.

thats cool gregor.............as long as they aren't suffering any penalty for having to land each separately (and my initial playing of Saipan it doesn't appear so)............that was the bonus in BIN.....only one 'landing' roll per stack! [;)]
