If you "kill" an art unit do you capture its guns as was done hystorically?

Yes, I believe so. You'll have a unit with the "(capt.)" designation in its title.

WOW this is a good game, ok, GREAT game, right up there with FOF and that is saying alot consideringthey use vastly differing systems. I especially enjoy the multidemensional aspect of Indian raiders, tough redcoats and militia and regular troops, throw in the French and this looks great.
How do you combine units that are in sepearate armies?

You can either drag the unit itself, or if you want to combine the entire army OR there is only 1 unit left, grab the 'tab' and drag it to the new location (whether that is a province, local army or bad guy). Not super intuitive but it works.

ok, this is what happened they are all inside.. so I only have the one icon at a time... and they are not drag and droppable in the lower space?
