I think if Glenn uses his recon in a scissors type  pattern of advance with sweeping light contact in the foreground of his main bodies advance,he should fair quite well, as long as he doesn't let the recon screen race too far in front or of flank of the main forces supporting fire, and in a clear path to the mains same objectives.

Look -- the restrictions set by the designer seem to be TOO restricting -- in war, you play the hand that you were dealt. I may fail miserably, but c'est la vie.

tracer,

Heh.  Actually, my desire was to get two people playing the same campaign format and writing parallel DARs simultaneously.  To me, the primary challenge is to write an interesting campaign story.  The campaign format being used is difficult enough that there is no need for competition between participants.  I'm just excited to have a veteran player like KG Erwin join in on the fun.

This is not gonna work for me. I realize what vahauser's motivations were, and I'm not gonna be a party to it.

All of this is simply an attempt to validate his own play methods. The restrictions aren't there to improve gameplay -- they are intended to make everyone play HIS way.

I'm as set in my ways as he is in his own, so I'm done with it.

(OK. PS: I came off like a jerk, and I apologize to Victor. I was blaming him just because I was getting my butt kicked in-game, which is something I am NOT accustomed to. He and I ( I hope) will remain friends. We just have some philosophical differences. Nothing earth-shaking. World keeps turning. I'll leave my offending words intact above. [:o])

Riun T,

I think Glenn deserves a commendation for even trying to play the FlashFyre format.  I tip my hat to him.  I know what a shock it is the very first time.  FlashFyre created a very challenging format indeed.  Most people would look at that campaign format and say that it was too difficult and not even try.  My hope is that he will eventually decide to stick with KG Erwin in the desert and give it another chance, from the beginning (re-start) if need be.

As I said before, I'm just grateful to have a fellow campaigning comrade.

Alright, Riun, yeah, I expect to get some licks, but aren't the friggin' Germans supposed to be the kings in the early days?

I try and try, but can't get into them. Wimpy infantry. They don't like close-quarters action. There's just one place for me, so I gotta go back.

Desert warfare is like fighting on the sea -- all this long-range fire and maneuver crap -- seems so impersonal.

Where's the banzais and bayonets and knives -- all the real-man stuff? [:D]

Glenn,

Would you be willing to start KG Erwin in the desert again if I agree to play a Pacific campaign using the format you choose for me (you will be completely in control of my nation my settings my core . . . everything), and we post parallel DARs for both campaigns?

Victor, why is this so important to you?

Once I start a new campaign, it will be with my personal preferences and personal core force choices. It doesn't matter if real-life forces and tactics are used. Everyone has their own ideas.

To be honest, I really don't think anyone gives a damn about someone else's solo play, at least in THIS game (apologies to Robot).

However, a human vs human battle report, well, that's something else. SOME might be interested, but frankly, a competition to see which player can be more gamey doesn't do a thing for me.

You want rules? I set one for myself, which goes back to the old Avalon Hill days -- no more than three infantry units in a stack, or two armored units. The total can be no more than three. You think about this -- a hex equals 50 meters/yards across. The physical limitations alone demand stacking limits. Even with these limits, you'd have 50 men and 10 tanks packed into the space of half a football field. A nice compact traget for a few rounds of mortar shells or artillery.

That's a pet peeve of mine. Depth is one thing, but crowding a hex just seems silly.

I elect for dispersal, with the ability to concentrate or spread out quickly. That's how my rifle platoons operate.

Glenn,

All I want is parallel DARs.  Parallel DARs offer others who read them two different perpectives on the same campaign format.  When people read my DARs all they are getting is one man's viewpoint.  But if they read two DARs, then they are getting a more diverse perpective.

Further, parallel DARs offer the opportunity for "teamwork" since both players are fighting parallel campaigns together.  They can share and exchange ideas which they might never have thought of otherwise.  And I think parallel DARs are also more entertaining and interesting because it is a shared experience.

Most DARs are dull because everybody knows that only one person is using a personal set of rules and guidelines that nobody else cares about.  But if two or more people are writing parallel DARs, then people can get more out of that experience.  It might even generate enough interest that they themselves might decide to use some of what is being posted in the DARs , or perhaps they might even want to join in a future campaign.

I'll play by any rules in the Pacific that you do.  I'll use your core in a campaign of your choosing.  The game format means little to me (as long as it's challenging).  I'm just interested in the camaraderie of two different people posting parallel DARs.

What do you say?
