SPW@W 5.3 to 6.1

Post by Lopaka »

At the Armor Site, I noted that there are downloads to get from any of the prior versions to 7.1 except 5.3. I don't see any downloads which get from 5.3 to anything beyond and, of course, I have v5.3.

Any thoughts on this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Lopaka

Yeah my only question is why didn't you go from 5.2 to 6.1. I don't know if you can go over 5.3 with the above. Can you go back to say 5.1?:(

This is a long shot...can you do a find for files installed in the last day (or day of 5.3 install) and remove all the SPwaw files that were addaed that day. You may be able to find out same in WinEx and if so you *MAY, I REPEAT MAY* be able to load 5.2 to 6.1 etc.......Good Luck....You may also hope someone more knowledgeable picks up on this thread.... :)

Thanks for trying to help gents.

The issue here is that my introduction to the game was the Desert Fox 1942 Mega Campaign disk (I just learned of SPW@W yesterday when a buddy bought it for me) and it comes with v5.3. So that should explain why I didn't go from 5.2 to 6.1 and also why I can't "go back" to 5.2.

But this doesn't explain why they would have patches converting to 5.3 from 5.2 and no way to go from 5.3 to 6.1.

I did try the 5.2 to 6.1 patch idea, but it stayed at 5.3...

You must have a nested install then, did you install to a drive or directory other than what 5.3 suggested?

If you install into another directory, the installer will get confused and install your upgrade into a nested directory. You need to move that directory to where your mech.exe really is. Or when you install you need to manually edit the install directory.

I installed MCNA and have upgraded at various times all the way to 7.1 from 5.3 (late production cd's came with 5.3). The upgrade to 6.1 is from 5.2+, either 5.2 or 5.3 will work. 5.3 is just 5.2 teaked for different damage routines, all the rest of the files are the same.

Thx John G.

In the end it didn't matter, as later during the night, I received several other of the Mega Campaign disks and they contained v7.0. I appreciate those who chimed in.
