Monitor picture flips

Post by blastpop »

While playing BF and ONLY BF my monitor sort of flips- It has happened with me on other SSG's games on my older computers too (I don't have any of my older SSG's on the newer computer). The picture just sort of flips- As if I were adjusting the video selections of the monitor. Why just SSG games? [:-]

Is there an adjustment or solution- it is sort of annoying.

Thanks in advance for your help. [&o]

With Battlefront, and our other games, we do have to set the screen resolution and color depth to something that is probably different to your desktop resolution. My guess, especially based on your comments, is that your monitor, for some reason, makes this change in modes more visible.

Hi Gregor,

The funny thing about this is that over the years I've played your games on the PC (I have played your games since the C64) regardless of the computer or monitor I own at the time- most of the games have adjustments I would call a flip. As you said the monitor is probably adjusting for some reason. My current monitor is a Dell Hi definition 19". I noticed last evening as time went on the fliping was occuring more frequently. Is there a setting in XP that I can make video adjustments to individual software packages to stop this occurence?

Thanks!

It depends to an extent on what your graphics card is. Nvidia and ATI have control panels which allow you to tweak certain settings, although I'm no expert in exactly how to go about resolving your problem.[:)]However, the first thing I would do before delving in to these would be to update the driver for your graphics. It may not solve the problem but it's something you should do anyway.[:)]

Forgive me if all of this is a bit 'old hat' to you but not everyone knows their way around a computer.[8D]

I just updated my Radeon ATI x600 to the latest drivers.

I also let catalyst (the ATI control system) to set programs not liking 75 hz refresh to choose 60 hz if that is what the program needs.

It still regular flips or blinks at least once or twice a minute. It is annoying [:@]

Any other suggestions that exist to stop this occurence?

Thanks!

Blastpop,

What type of monitor do you have ?

And have you tried setting the monitor resolution to the same resolution as you have set in the option in Battlefront ? If you have did the problem go away ?

The problem seems to have abated. Played quite a while with no flipping going on. I would have thought updating drivers would have made the difference immediately. Wierd...

Now that I have mentioned it, the problem will likely resume... [:D]
