Another newb question: supply

How does one find out how much supply they currenly have stored up? Does supply store up during the game if one does not use them all up during op movement phase? When purchasing supply during the econ phase that gives you 5 supply, does that mean that I can operationally move 5 units 1 hex? (I know that moving heavy fleets, light fleets, carrier fleets, and armor units more than one space uses up more than 1 supply).
