Voiceovers

Post by Furyofaseraph »

Hey all,
I know this has been discussed previously, but I didnt see a result.
Is there a way to add voice-overs to the game?
say, for example a hostile ship comes up onto sensors, a voiceover would sound, announcing direction and range (i know direction and range would be a little bit to ask for, but i can hope).

Thanks for any help on the matter.

Hi,

When creating a mission, one can add sound files either timed into a mission or triggered by a mission event.

For example, when a craft reaches a nav point a voice .wav file could play. Or when a craft is destroyed a .wav file could be played. etc. [;)]

So its a mission function - not a ship function.
How about when you order a wingman to engage, or when a torpedo is fired? I doubt there would be parameters for that.

Right, they are not specifically a ship funcition.

5.0.1 had added a LOT of new voice files that automatically play during the missions. They don't need to be added. Great addition, by the way.

I create a mission and then test it without ANY added voice files to see how congested things will be, sound wise. Then add want I want or think the mission can handle.

There are limitations one has to work around but much can be done to liven up missions with voice files as is.[;)]

the whole caveat to the sound thing...

the mission must be run using the filesys shortcut OR placed in dat format.

otherwise sounds will not play.

I don't think that is correct. I've created missions from within the game and added my own .wav files. I have then flew the mission and my sounds have played just fine.

Of course one must have a Sounds folder in the games main directory to access said .wav files. [;)]
