Battlefront Now Available for Sale!

Battlefront Now Available at Matrix Games!
Shine those boots and load up the BAR, Battlefront is now reporting for duty!

Staten Island, NY, February 7th, 2007 - Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) and Strategic Studies Group (www.ssg.com.au) are excited to announce the release of Battlefront. Battlefront is a turn-based World War II operational strategy game which features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts.

Based on the design philosophy of SSG’s previous award winning release, the Decisive Battles series, Battlefront presents newcomers and Decisive Battles fans alike with an entirely new system specifically designed for battalion-level combat. Players will have the opportunity to take part in historic battles like Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala and relive tough real-world combat decisions involving command and control, sighting, and supply. The scale of Battlefront has been tweaked to perfection so that players will have realistic control over their forces while at the same time making a telling difference in the strategic picture.

For veteran players of the Decisive Battles series who already have a good idea as to what to expect, they will be pleased by the multiple new features for in depth combat and battle management. To that end, Battlefront has innovative provisions for direct and indirect fire, air strikes, and special, historically-accurate combat modes (such as Japanese Banzai attacks).

In addition, Battlefront gives the player a say in the arrival of off-map reinforcements as well as refitted unit. This new layer of “off-map” strategy adds tremendously to the strategy in each Battlefront campaign.

Game Features
  • Improved Strategic AI enables a more flexible response to fast changing battlefields
  • Improved user interface simplifies unit information
  • Command and control system that rewards correct employment of military assets
  • Close combat routines have special attack modes such as Banzai, Surprise and Infiltration
  • Indirect Fire from artillery and air assets can directly attack enemy units
  • Direct fire from AFVs can attack enemy units at range
  • Counter-battery fire can eliminate enemy artillery
  • Eliminated units can be rebuilt as cadres and returned to battle
  • Sighting, command, supply and danger zone rules encourage sensible use of artillery
  • Complete Unit, Map and AI editor allows users to create scenarios from scratch
  • Improved Play By Email security

Ok, everyone, it's GO time!!

Here are a few answers to frequently asked questions about order options to get you started:

1. When will the boxed copies be available?

We project these will be available in 2-3 weeks, with US and Canadian stores shipping out first due to their proximity to the printer.

2. What is in the boxed copy?

Our new releases (and only our new releases) now also include a full color printed manual. This is the case for Battlefront as well. So, what you'll receive if you order a boxed copy is a full color printed DVD box, a full color printed CD with your serial number and order number printed on it and a full color printed manual (it's about 130 pages).

3. Can I order the digital download now and "upgrade" to the boxed copy later?

No! Unfortunately. This is at the top of our list for future store improvements, but it can't be done now without a very involved manual process. Therefore, if you think you will want a boxed copy, our advice is to be patient and wait until that option is available in the store. If you order a digital download now, we will not be able to "upgrade" you to a boxed copy in the future.

Enjoy Battlefront and let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

- Erik

Is there no way we can order the digital d/l plus physical shipment at this time?  The store only lists the download.

Not yet, sorry - due to the problems we ran into with the first "print on demand" releases with printed manuals, we have to release with only the digital download option initially. The digital + physical will show up once physical stocks are available. In the future, we plan to make that option available on release again, but a few more logistical issues need to be worked out before that can happen.

The current exchange rate is 1.17! That doesn't leave much of a difference, and what there is is the usual rounding to $(multiple of 5). Everyone outside the US 'suffers' the same thing and whether you lose a bit or benefit a bit just happens to depend on the exchange rate at the time. Just think yourself lucky you don't have to pay 17.5% (UK) tax as well, like we Euros do!

I realy not understand why Matrix, an US companies, based in USA, oblige European customer to pay Taxes, specially if there is no shipping. By the way European administration have no way to follow transaction, so matrix could do absolutely what they want with taxes collected...

now what you said is not true about rounding. Forge of Freedom is only C 57$. anyway to have to pay more than Ca 50$ for a digital game is too much

First, we are required by law to do this by the EU. What you're suggesting, that we simply do whatever we want, is illegal.

Second, we use a warehouse in the UK to ship those EU orders, so that we can actually REDUCE the cost to European customers who would otherwise risk additional taxes/duties for games shipped from the US.

Third, our store is run in partnership with Digital River, which has offices in the EU to handle this side of our business. Therefore, in effect, we are also a European company based in the EU.

Well said Erik. A little scepticism in society is a good thing but the degree of cynicism that some people show these days is quite unbelievable.
