One of the downsides of high EXP bomber units, is their ability to "suicide" themselves. Even though we had 36 Oscars ordered to escort from the same base, in the .am. the Oscars decided not to fly and the Ann's decided to fly anyway ... well I guess the good news is that after we refill the Ann unit, the EXP will be lower, so they will be less likely to take such a dumb measure ! Socked in in the Greater Celebes AO as usual. Amboina fell. We will now delay the Kendari invasion and try to sneak the 16A (2ID, 4ID and support) down to Darwin. KB will support.

RE: jwilkerson(Jpn) Moses (Allies)
ORIGINAL: jwilkerson
Ok, I said I would lay out our "start up" process, so here goes.
First, both Moses and I agreed that either of us would play either side.
Then we agreed that we would determine the "house rules" before we picked sides. Our thinking was that this would produce the most balanced set of house rules. At least within the limits of our knowledge.
BTW, one thing we learned about each other during our discussions is that we are both US Army vets and we are both Math majors!!! Probablyl a dangerous combination [:D]
Ok, so here were the house rules we agreed to, before we picked sides.
House Rules
(1) VPs are not determinate of victory.
(2) Asian Mainland Borders. General Idea, units may not cross Chinese borders unless PP are paid (to put the units into an unrestricted command or unless they are already in an unrestricted command). So this means for example that Kwangtung Army units may not enter China proper without paying PP and that Japanese Chinese command units may not leave China without Paying PP and that Chinese units may not leave China without paying PP, etc.
(3) PDU on (note I've never played with this on!?)
(4) Russia is totally inactive until Aug 1945, nothing goes in, nothings goes out, no planes fly missions, etc.
(5) First turn will be "Historical" , i.e. no moves by either side (you just key in your password and save!! Really quick first turn!)
(6) ASW TFs may contain up to six vessels.
(7) Combat TF size must be rational. For example, in one hex, 50 TFs of one PT boat each, would absolutely not be rational. Generally combat TFs should be around 8 vessels, more is fine. Lots of little TFs will be candidates for an abuse allegation.
(8) No LCU may ride aboard subs.
(9) Sub "in" ports, ok.
(10) Allied damage control "on".
After this agreement, we had some further discussions and determined that I would play Japanese and he would play Allies, and so here we go!
Hi, just started reading this AAR. Question, does the no moving of units under restricted commands apply to the AVG? If so is Moses moving them in one group at a time? The reason I ask is because doesn't it takes a few PPs to change them. Thanks for any answers. Great reading btw...kills time at work when it's slow[:D]

As to AVG, I'd have to check, don't usually play Allies, but if AVG starts in restricted command, then yes he would have had to pay PP.

View of the Greater Celebes AO. Socked in as usual. This would be the first turn that Moses would have clearly been able to discern our intent. Previously we were moving West or SE ... probably supporting Amboina, possible preparing to land at Kendari (all true!) .. but now that we are approaching Kai, with as many ships as we have, we could have little other useful purpose (than heading for Darwin). But we should be able to start landing on the 1st (of Jan) or 2nd at the latest, so only items that he already had in motion will be able to intervene ...

I will try to do month end reports - a strategic overview - on the first of each month. This time, the summary will only reflect the first three weeks of the war.
So to start it off, here is the losses / VP summary. About the only bragging rights we have in the air war is that we are continuing to hang on to a 1 to 3 exchange ratio in air to air combat. Japanese flak losses will almost always be higher than Allied at this stage, since the Japanese are attacking. Also our higher op losses reflect that for most of the early turns, we were flying more. Recently Moses has increased his daily sortie rate and finally surpassed us in total sorties flown.

The next report is the industry summary. Resources and oil are just barely flat, thus far our only imports have been from China/Manchuria/Korea. We are slightly increasing Merchant Ship build points, Armament and Vehicles. Nakajima engines are being massively expanded and the pool has remained flat.

Next is air production. Highlights are that we are increasing Zero and Oscar production (both use Nakajima engine). As you can see, the zeros are currently at 203 per month and the Oscars are at 124 per month. The few other changes (Betty and Tabby) are more moderate.

Turning to the losses. In the air, the zero is still not at the top of the list, this in part due to the commitment of the AVG at Singapore for several days, which lead to high AVG attrition.

As to ships, not much to report in terms of losses. This report is sorted by VP, so we can see that nothing larger than a 15 point tanker has been lost by either side. I believe all Japanese losses thus far have been AP (+ 1 AK) most have been 1500 tonners which are being used as small unescorted supply convoys (usually 4 ships per convoy) almost all losses have been due to subs.

Now to review each of the major Areas of Operation. First the CBI. In this area, we have two offensives underway, one way up North at Yenen and the other way down South where we are about to cross the Salaween into Burma. Moses has a mass of troops at Changsha. They sallied forth once towards Nanchang, but then withdrew back into Changsha.

In Malaya we are slowly working our way South. We have the IG, 5ID, 18ID and 56ID in the area now. All are prepping for Singapore.

In the PI, we have the 16ID and 21ID sitting on Manilla. And we have the 65IB advancing on Lingayen and the 48ID advancing on Tugueguro. Most probably the Americans will choose to be interred in Manilla.

Now on to the Pacific. Since we have no carriers over here, we are vulnerable to counterattacks, especially from the American carriers, but thus far no attempts have been detected. We are about ready to try the Landing at Rabaul.

And finally over to the Marshalls, also vulnerable to carrier attack or even landing attempts. We have upgraded on Chutai of Claudes to Zeros, but need to upgrade the full complement soon.
