Wilderness add-on beta version for BGC

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

Thanks for the encuragement.

The enlarged map which I'm completing covers right now the area from Locust Grove on the left to Salem church on the right; and from Germanna ford in the upper side to Spotsylvania Court House in the lower side. At moment the map allows to recreate the whole battles of the Wilderness and Spottsylvania, and also the fight in the main battlefield of Chancellorsville excluding the diversion in front of Fredericksburg. A further step to cover the area of Fredericksburg is in my plans, but I don't know if it is better to complete what is at present under work or to extend now the project to cover all the battles which were fought in the area, including the battle of Fredericksburg and the whole battlefield of Chancellorsville with the area of the diversion at Fredericksburg.

Of course I'll be glad if my project may become a future further "official" game of the BG serie ...that's my dream:)

Sounds great!

I'm liking this Wilderness Campaign more and more as things progress in my initial game.

You certainly have my vote for this to become a future Matrix release! (David and Company... are you paying attention to this thread?)

Thanks a lot again:)

As you surely noticed, I introduced some changes in the parameter data file. For example to pass through a forest hex now it costs 3 movement points, and not 4 like in the original BG settings, to balance the effects on the movement inflicted by a terrain so heavly wooded and broken by lots of ravines. It is something that needs a bit of testing, so feel you free to post your suggestions and feelings about this one and the other modifications which you can find explained in the read-me file inside the downloaded package.

Hah... I thought I was able to move a bit faster through the woods....

Personally, it feels about right from a playability standpoint. It might be technically more accurate to wander slowly through the woods, but it would be really tedious. I vote for keeping it at 3 MP!

One thing has occurred to me... should those supply trains be able to move through the woods (even at one hex per turn)? As a practical matter, it seems like they should be restricted to roads, trails, and open ground. Perhaps this should be a "house rule"... no movement beyond the adjacent wooded hex next to a road.

...it may be done just editing the main.pdt file (it is a normal text file), making the forest hexes unpassable by supply trains.

Hey Luciano... what's the latest?

Any new developments on your mod? The expanded map, perhaps?

I was just on Amazon.com looking to spend a gift certificate. They have Chicamauga used for $74. 88 and new for $179.95!!! Wow does that seem expensive!
They also have HPS Vicksburg for $29, I beleive. Is that a good game? I have never played the HPS series. Thanks for any feedback.

Aye, Vicksburg is good...though most of it has little to do with the actual town, mainly the battles to protect it.

Hi Rhonda

I'm currently invovled in a test battle against a human opponent, just to fix what I had already done. The "enlarged" version of the map is still on my work table.

Cheers,
Luciano

What's the Latest? and a "Hey David"

Post by rhondabrwn »

Hey what's up?

Nothing posted on this thread since February?

Question: Will this mod work with the upcoming Matrix releases? Or will I still need to keep my old Chickamauga installation loaded?

Note to David Heath: Has anyone checked on this for the Matrix release?

Or... could you be in negotiation with Luciano to make "Wilderness / Chancellorsville" one of the "new battles" you are hinting at? Hmmm....

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks again fot the support, Rhonda.

During the last months I played some e-mail battles to test the add-on.

Well, I'm waiting to know what happens with the new release of the BG games, mainly about the compatibility with old mods and the modding possibilities in general.

Obviously I'm still very interested to continue the work, and to enlarge the whole thing to include the battles of Spottsylvania, Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg ...it depends upon the time I may spent on the thing and upon the interest which the project may receive by the community.

Luciano............there "may" be tranportability of the old Talonsoft BG user made scenarios such as yours and others at the ACWCO site into the new game... I asked such a question in the thread linked below and got this response from David Heath
I can't promise but I can't see why not. What scenarios are you talking about.

David

here's a link to the thread.
