What I would like to see SSG do for a game

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

What I would like to see SSG do for a game

Post by Missouri_Rebel »

I love seeing the die rolls and such but I wish it was based on more varients than just a 6 sided dice. Having different sized dice would be a great improvement imo. Something that allowed larger dice for bigger formations and a chance for attacking units to 'purchase' another sized dice would be neat. Some different dice results could then be acquired such as lose entrenchment, retreat without casulties, loss in morale for the defender/attacker lowering the die size. Or maybe a forced splitting of the unit with 2 lower sized dice being used and lower morale for each.
What other kind of results do you guys envision?
Also, with a larger die, there could be many different combat modifiers that would add or lower the final roll. With a larger sized die, many modifiers could come into play giving a unique feel to each combat. i.e. +1 for experienced troop, -2 for attack across river, -1 for night attack without prior recon, +2 for 3 sided attack, etc.
What do y'all think?

p.s. is it a bit too quiet here?

We could any size dice we wanted, but we don't see the need. Everybody can understand a six sided dice and have a very good, (instinctive for most gamers), idea of probabilities. We don't want to lose that by going to higher sided dice.

I don't think we want to start splitting units, but many of the effects that you mention are already taken into account in the combat system. Right click on combat display to see what's going on under the hood.

Gregor, I don't think most folks understand the elegance of your all's designs. I think many believe that massively complicated equations and formulas make a better, more realistic game. Thing is, military science (by my reading anyway) on the subject of resolution of combat is more about broad assumptions and principles. Complexity merely to give the appearance of "truth" is a highly inefficient use of resources.

I, for one, appreciate the more honest scholarship in your games, and hope you remain true to the principles y'all appear to embrace.

HAHAHAHAHHA....yeah, this talk of many-sided die got me thinking the same thing...
