Dismayed after the long wait

Post by solops »

I am stunned and dismayed by the patch's failure to address what was, to me, the the most obvious and important problem - the inability to edit existing leagues. I bought the game the week it became available and shelved it a month or so later due to numerous small problems, but mainly because it was so difficult to set up a league. All I want to do is start the game and edit an existing league so that there is no play clock and so that the rule set is standard NFL. I am unable to do so. I start the game, go the the US MAX FOOTBALL LEAGUE and, when entering the edit league area, find that EVERYTHING is still locked except the number of draft rounds. (not to mentions some "CND" settings in a US league (??)).

Phooey!

How difficult is this to fix? Are you really going to make us create a new league from scratch just to play with no play clock? This is the NUMBER ONE reason I bought the game in the first place - the ability to take time to choose plays - and you have effectively neutered that ability.

You can edit the league.

The default US league is set to begin a season. But you can not edit league rules or settings when a league season is underway.

To change this, simply end the season. Click the [End Season] button (or reset will do the job too if you haven't played any games). This will allow you to edit all your rules and league settings.

The game manual details this.

The game has always worked this way (or in a very similar way) since its initial release in 2006.

Thanks

Fair enough, but I'll bet there are a LOT of folks out there wanting to do what I want to do or something similar in starting a season with an existing league but different rules. I strongly suggest providing an easier and more obvious way to do so (i.e. one button on the start screen to push to get into a "special" edit section"). We idiots will appreciate it and there are a LOT more of us than there are of the intelligent people on this board....and we have lots of $$$ to spend. Please give us a better reason to give YOU and MF our money.

Unfortunately I'd be stuck with exactly the opposite problem. The many people that wish to play league games right away want the game set up that way by default.

In defense of myself and the game, simply posting a question on the message board probably would have had you up and running very quickly. There is a very active group of people here that I'm sure would have answered your question very quickly and effectively.

Thanks

I am stunned and dismayed by the patch's failure to address what was, to me, the the most obvious and important problem - the inability to edit existing leagues.

The game has allowed that from day one.
I bought the game the week it became available and shelved it a month or so later due to numerous small problems, but mainly because it was so difficult to set up a league. All I want to do is start the game and edit an existing league so that there is no play clock and so that the rule set is standard NFL. I am unable to do so.

This can be done.

1. Go into the league.
2. Reset the league. You will be able to draft players. If you do not want to draft players, just end the current season.
3. Edit League
4. Set Rules
5. Set up draft ... or go into the season if you didn't do a full reset.
I start the game, go the the US MAX FOOTBALL LEAGUE and, when entering the edit league area, find that EVERYTHING is still locked except the number of draft rounds. (not to mentions some "CND" settings in a US league (??)).

Everything that is locked has already been done for the first year of the default league. You have to end the season or reset the league if you want to do that stuff from the get go.

Which CND settings are in the US league? The Snap To is defaulted to Canadian, but that has no bearing on the rules that are being used.
Phooey!

In the time it took to post this message, you could have asked how to set it up the way you wanted.
How difficult is this to fix? Are you really going to make us create a new league from scratch just to play with no play clock? This is the NUMBER ONE reason I bought the game in the first place - the ability to take time to choose plays - and you have effectively neutered that ability.

There was nothing to fix. A game has to start in some state or another. Some people want to start playing without a draft, some want to draft. Some people want standard NFL rules, and some people want to change them, as you did with having no clock. It is easy to make changes to the starting point, but the game has to start somewhere.

We have a pretty helpful community on this board, but one must be willing to ask questions if one wants answers.

I hope this helps in getting you to the starting point you wish to be at, and I hope you enjoy the game.

No defense is needed. The game is much improved. It plays better and it looks better. My only disappointment is the cumbersome method imposed for making the few changes I mentioned above. I would suggest that you leave things set up just as they are for the reasons you mention above, but set up duplicates of the leagues where the season has not started linked to another button on the start screen that would allow people to to change existing leagues without all of the contortions currently required. Make it easy and as idiot-proof as possible. What seems simple to people who understand computers and/or this game can be daunting and cumbersome to those less gifted and talented (or lazy). And as I mentioned before, those of us with the latter attributes make up 99.9% of any potential market. So, just a little extra spoon-feeding may have a big pay-off (and keep us from p---ing off the moderator with silly questions and complaints).

I think one reason he disabled it during the course of the season was because it made things go wacky when you did this.

but resetting the league should do it for the built in leagues

Solops, I really don't think there are 'contortions currently required'. It's one button click to bring the league into a state where you can edit it. Being computer knowledgable (or not) has nothing to do with that.

There are a couple of reasons I don't allow league rule changes during the course of a seasons. One being that simply isn't done in real life. The XFL not withstanding, leagues do not change major rules once the season has started. Secondly, yes, changing rules mid season introduces a number of things that cause havoc from the programming side of equation.
