Downloading Scenarios

I've successfully downloaded a few scenarios, but I'm told there is an extra step needed to upgrade pre-COW scenarios to TOAWIII. What is this extra step? Also, somwhere I saw someone mention an "scenario dump" in connection with downloading pre-COW scenarios--I have no idea how that is.

Can someone explain how to fully upgrade older scenarios to be compatable with TOAWIII?

I tink you only need to open the old scenarios in the editor and then save them again to make them compatable.

I've tried that, but when I try to load a scenario made for TOAWI, for example, I get a message saying that the editor cannot open that scenario (I forgot the exact message, I'll try again and see what it says).

Any pre-ACOW scenario would have to be updated to ACOW before it could be updated to TOAW III. That requires ACOW. And, unfortunately, in many cases, that means that the pre-ACOW scenario would first have to be updated to the last revision level of its pre-ACOW TOAW system. That requires the pre-ACOW TOAW system.

So, if you have a TOAW I scenario that was made using TOAW I revision 1.04, you would first have to get a copy of TOAW I, update it to revision 1.07, load the scenario into its editor and save it. Then get a copy of ACOW, update it to revision 1.04, load the updated TOAW I scenario into ACOW's editor and save it. And only then could you load the ACOW scenario into TOAW III and save it - resulting in a TOAW III scenario. Whew!

Now over at SZO there was an effort made at one time to provide a service to do just that. I don't know if it is still in operation.

Thanks.  Luckily I have TOAW I & II, so I can do this.  Do games made for the Wargame of the Year Edition of TOAW I need the WOTY version to update, or can they be updated by TOAW I?

Not much I fear.
If the scenario is patched up to the latest available patch (1.07 for vol. I or 1.05 for vol. II) you can send it my way, I'll make the conversion to TOAW III. Check your PMs for my email address.

You won't find CoW in stores. If you absolutely need it, I guess you could have a go at ebay to see whether the advent of TOAW III convinces some players in selling their copy at a reasonable price.
At any rate, you don't need it to convert the scenarios we're talking about - you have mail [8D]
