Production Question: CSA

Production Question: CSA

Is there a general lvl of production ($/labor & Iron/horses) per turn that the CSA should attempt to reach early in the game?

No specific number -- the more, the better.

I was thinking more along the line of what the CSA should build in their cities (& where?). More of a general guide line?

I'm new at the game too, and was doing OK until I had compooter problems, but am up and running again but have a real mess now as I somehow have the Southern economy all goofed-up in comparison to what I had before. [&:]

i remember i had built a few more Schools for rearch, had one or two more camps for troop replacements, only built one additional horse farm, a couple of Foundrys and Mines, a couple/few more mints, a couple more Plantations, and DIDN"T USE THE DISEASE SETTING. Using this setting forces you to use more resources to build more Hospitals, and the Diseases can really decimate your armies. nasty thing. I hope the affects of Disease are tined down a wee bit in the next patch.

So, I am now trying to build more Schools etc. for technology research and camps for troop replacemtns, and more Arsenals for small arms (Guns in the game) production.

It can be difficult to determine how and with what to build your economy. i am playing at major level of difficulty setting.

The first thing is to build things that produce resources -- mines in cities with ironworks (Richmond, Augusta, and Columbus, I think), making sure each of them is set to produce iron not horses. And build some mints, since money is required for a lot of things. I also build a hospital in Lynchberg and others near my armies as resources permit. If you feel short on labor or horses, you can build the things that produce them.

Later, of course, you are building military units and so it is hard to invest. But the sooner you get some schools and research institutes (in cities with universities, Milledge Ga and Raleigh NC, I think) the longer they have to build up research points. I always need rail capacity so, if I can afford, it I build some railroads. You will need camps to keep your force levels up. And an arsenal or two would be nice, but I have trouble scraping up the wherewithal.

Meanwhile, you have to decide what to do about governors requests. Don't try to respond to all of them, unless they start getting really insistent.

By the way, isn't this an odd place to start a thread on this topic?

BTW, maybe the fellow is new and didn't know where it was appropriate to post, not to mention that economics can be included in strategic AAR's more or less.

Perhaps a pinned thread entitled 'Economic Affairs' would be in order.
