Check if JAVA is working here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Are Sun's Java and MS VM the same?

I know that there based on the same concept, but I thought MS altered Sun's VM.

In fact, I think that Sun sued MS over it.

PoE (aka ivanmoe)

They are not the same. The old MS VM is what many old utilities were made to work with prior to the lawsuit. It is not even available from MS anymore, only on some websites that host depricated techs. Sun Java is not the same by any means.

As a General Note To All: MS VM is not needed for playing CoI, but it is used by MMCC3, which is an "as is" third party software application not owned by Matrix, Simtek or Destineer. A number of the tools made by fans and grogs for modding the CC series of games also rely on MS VM. Most of the newer ones do not, like those made by Mafi (a die-hard Mac man who takes pity on us poor PC people).

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been a bit busy the last couple of days.

I've had to admit temporary defeat when it comes the playing COI H2H, but if I do find out whats causing the problems I'll post here so hopefully nobody else suffers with a router from hell... [8|]

This whole router thing is a tangle.

It is with most any game that requires port forwarding to simply JOIN a game, as opposed to HOSTING or running a server.

I have a LINKSYS BEFSR41 version 3; it works great.

I attribute it's versatility in gaming to regular firmware updates made available by LINKSYS and the ability to forward TEN ports, either individual ones or whole ranges, 2300-2400 for example, both UDP and/or TCP.

But, here's the deal: A lot of routers that use NAT firewalls do NOT have this ability, many BELKIN router/gateways/switches, for instance.

Since CoI is new, perhaps we ought to start a list of routers that DO work with the game.

Then the folks who are struggling will know for sure that they've got a connectivity issue rather than a "bug" in the CoI.

I bought the game yesterday, and have tried many many times to connect on the MMCC3 server, just to have this error screen :

All necessary ports are open and forwarded...

Thanks for any help [&o]

Did you read the MMCCIII PDF that's included in the game?

Read and re-read.... the error message is when i try to connect to the server.

I can play a single-player MCC3 campaign, but when i install the multiplayer plugin, nothing can be done. I re-installed, both the main program and MVM and Java and .Net 2.0, opened and forwarded ports .... and still the same ##### message.

Which Java am i supposed to use ? It seems like a Java error...

You need the msjavwu.exe , as stated in the manual, found in your \Close combat\close CombatIII\support folder

That's what I did. I have given upon MMC3, and i'm disapointed to have paid 30 € for a 10 years-old game. Going back to Forge of Freedom.

Thanks Zakouski, I'm sorry for the multiplayer issues you're having, but we are working on finding out what they are and coming up with a solution.

Based on your DxDiag, your setup looks ok apart from some older audio drivers, but those wouldn't affect this particular issue. I noted that you are running on Windows 2000 and that seems to have a high rate of issues with MMCCIII in particular, which we are discussing with the developer. As long as you made sure to install all the components during the installation process, I think the next thing is to see what ideas the developers may have on this.
