Any player's game review sites out there?

Post by gunny »

Game Spot only allows paying subscribed members now to write game reviews. Used to be the Happy Puppy was a popular wide open game review site where players could express their experiences with a game.

Was wondering if anyone knows of such a place where players can still write reviews. I don't mind registering if thats what it takes.

Gamerankings.com is the place you want to be. Just register, vote and write reviews. Bout the only one left that doesn't require some silliness to write a silly review. Some of these places act like a negative review is bad for their sites lol. Fact is if developers didn't make crappy faulty sorry ctd software from the getgo many wouldn't get bad reviews. Other fact is many mainstream sites will "overlook" those issues from mainstream publishers and titles while creaming an independent nonamer if they so much as make one bad issue with the games. I've followed Gamespy, IGN, Gamespot, PCgamer and other mainstream reviewers for years and this is the way they've been doing business for years. They just don't bite the hands that feed them, but, they unload on independents or no namers.

I brought issue up directly about Civilization IV being so problematic out of the box and it getting such a high score vs X3:Reunion which Gamespy reviewers just destroyed for having the "same" issues that Civilization IV had. Biased bs reviews that's why to me they are insignificant for the most part. I remember them giving Starfleet Command a bad review and I waited and got it bargain bin and it was one of the better games with a decent AI I'd played in awhile. It wasn't kiddie clickfest enough for the children that review at Gamespy though so it got bad marks. Gamespot and Gamespy are pretty notorious for writing bad reviews on pure wargames as well. Check out the review Gamespot did on "Birth of America".
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

This used to have a huge database of reviews.  The recently changed the format though.  Still, some games have a lot of reviews to them.  And it does what you want.

I thought that was a reasonable review. Sure, the score was lower than it should have been but the reviewer did make clear that that was mainly the result of Ageod not doing enough to encourage wargame newbies and general gamers. Grogs could filter that out and
Ageod made only a handful of concessions in what is essentially just another hardcore military wargame made for genre enthusiasts

would be enough, although they might take issue with the "just"!

gamefaqs.com, mostly console games but PC games as well. Pretty much every game for every platform listed. You do have to register to submit reviews but that is true of anywhere.

thanks, all good sites I added those 3 mentioned to my favs. I already wrote a review. Sometimes "professionals" miss the mark and an outside opinion is good to have. When I'm not playing strategy wargames I play tactical roleplaying games. Gamespot gave Brigade E5 a 3.6/10 Luckily a reader review assessed it better. I bought it and its actually quite good.
