version 3.2 airpower

Post by matt.buttsworth »

air power is awesome in version 3.2. Has anyone played it through to see if the russians with a weaker airforce still stand a chance.
I feaer the change in air power might tilt the game too far in favour of the Germans.

Nothing to airpower was changed for 3.2. Certainly the scenarios which disable strategic bombing from the west (using wirhack) completely leave air superiority in the hands of the Germans for the entire game. How the German player handles strategic bombing decides whether the Soviets have a chance at achieving at least local air superiorty.

Are you sure? According to the readme you are right, but when I tried bombing as Russian it was much more powerful. Only the change in production so that you cannot only produce fws, may hold the balance.

From what I have seen, even though it wasn't supposed to happen, air attacks do seem stronger, but they cause no readiness loss, or at least little enough that the unit will gain readiness at the start of the next turn over what it had before any and all air attacks. This seems balanced, but is not the way I would like to see it happen. I believe it was an accident, but I am not sure.

have a look at the increase in tank losses due to interdiction from version 3.105 to version 3.2. It is huge.

Has airpower been changed against last version ?
In old version, you could send one bomber at a time with half the fighters in escort, the other half put back in training.
After the raid, the training aircraft were set back on escort and sent with another bomber, second helf of fighters in training, and boom, they became available back.
Each raid of a fraction of the bomber had nearly same impact as a full raid. but more than damages, loss of radiness was awesome after a few raids. So tactic was never to send big raids.
Didn't test it yet on new version.

Are you using possum WIR? All the bombers get much bigger loads there so they can cause a lot more damage.

The air attacks are much stronger than in 3.1. Also, there appears to be a general readiness loss problem for divisions in combat, where they now do not lose any readiness, although smaller units will still do so. Until recently when Tom1939 found it, it was thought that readiness losses to air attacks had been eliminated but he found out that it was a general problem only for divisions.
