Difficulty 'seeing' elevation changes

Post by kneecaps »

Hi all, really enjoying COTA so far!

One point which is leading to some fustration is my visualisation of terrain, elevation and los.

Some changes in elevation are very clear by changes in colour of the terrain, however examining certain areas with the LOS tool reveals significant changes in elevation and effect on LOS but the area appears as one single colour on the map.

This seems to happen quite often at the lower, not mountain areas (the light coloured terrain), which leads to me having to do quite a lot of LOS checking to see if there is actual LOS (at short distances).

Is this making sense? If so, i'm wondering if there is any way to get more elevation detail displayed on the map?

kneecaps,

Welcome.

Try one of the other alternate map pattern graphics set here: http://cota.matrixgames.com/downloads/

Also note that within a given contour there will be variations. Height is stored as a series of spot hights for each 100 x 100m grid. So if the contour interval is say 20m, then there could for the 100m layer the individual spot heights could vary between 100m and 119m.
