Supply question

Post by Error in 0 »

Playing bridge at Corinth. I cannot find any good place for the supply base. In the picture below (I hope I manage to attatch a picture), any suggestions how the supply lines can be cut off? I have sent a patrol between base and the bridge, but nothing but civilians in awe of my fearsome (but hungry) military machine can be found.

Well the obvious reason for the units south of the canal is that there is no valid route to them - all the crossings are blown. The ones north of the canal are another matter. If you select the Base and then the Depot tab, you should see how much stocks it has on hand. These are what's available to it to distribute forward to its drawing units. These stocks differ from the supplies listed under the E&S tab, which represent the supplies allocated for direct consumption by the Base itself and are not available for distrubtion to other units.

I suspect that you Base may have moved, in which case it will lose any supplies it cannot carry. Airborne Bases like the one you have have precious little transport capacity. They need to find a good spot and stay put for at least 24 hours. That way they can receive supplies and distribute them forward.

This  can be very difficult where the enemy is close by and hotly contesting the ground, as is the case in this scenario. ANd remember this that enemy fire can deter any transport getting through, so try and push those enemy units far back.

The corinth bridge is fully operational. The supplies in base are at ca. 30-40% except "bulk fuel" which is at 0%. I moved the base immediately after arrival to this location as it seemed like the most hidden place for it to be, and it has not moved since. Do you suggest I leave all bases in their initial location? That seems like risky business. I did surrender to have a look at the enemy positions, and as suspected, no enemy units remotely near the base and its supply lines. However, after 12 hour or so the situation did improve considerably. Despite an enemy bridging unit running about in my rear, eventually all my units got fully supplied, without me doing anything.

OK I now understand. What you have to remember is that normally there are two Resupply Determination events per day at 0600 and 1800. At these times supplies arrive from off-map. Well the runs that will deliver them are despatched. It may take several hours for the runs to transit their ground SEP and arrive at the drawing Base. For those Bases drawing from an air SEP the supplies usually arrive straight away at the air SEP but then must be carried by the drawing Base from the SEP to the Base's location. This takes time.

Now when an airlanding Base arrives it does so with a qty of supplies ( ie these are dropped with it ). If you move the Base it can only carry what it can lift. The rest are lost. So you have to make a judgement call as to what is more important, the long term safety of the Base or the immediate use of those supplies. If it looks critically dangerous, then I would move the Base and wait till sometime after the next Resupply Determination event before it gets topped up. Otherwise, I would stay put.

If the DZ is hot ( ie enemy are there ) then first off keep some line or line support units with the Base to defend it. Attack and clear the immediate area asap.
