Want: Farenheit-Feet-Miles

Post by LarryP »

What can I say, I am an American used to farenheit, feet, and miles. NOT celsius, meters, and kilometers. It would be nice to have the option to pick between the two types of measurements instead of being stuck to the one.

Larry,

Welcome.

What can I say, even the US military use metric.[;)]

I'll add a user option for "imperial" measures to our TaskTracker database. Don't know when we'll get to it though.

I'm an idiot. I should know that but I didn't. I along with so many other older people can't stand the metric system. I also figured I may be the only one that would ask for this. However, I bet if it were available then a lot of users would use it. Anybody care to comment?

Thank you, Larry.

Yes, I'd use it also. Being in the UK and used to F,F,M. Good idea too.

I'm in the UK but i've been 'metric' all my life. The only British quirks are our road distances are given in miles, hence our car speedos and speed limits are in MPH.

Its a useful option, but all the military stuff I know seems to work in metric!

I grew up in the Imperial age and converted to metric. Also went from Pounds/Shillings & pence to Dollars & cents.

Maybe this should be used as a first step in the inevitable change to the Metric system in the USA (All our medical sales to the USA were in Litres/milligrams etc, its changing subliminally)

Myself being an engineer in the Oil and Gas biz, I've seen them all and seen them all used in every combination. Somebody somewhere is always trying to come up with a new one though. Units, get used to them all IMHO.

The only problem I encounter is with units imperialists who try to force their own sets of units on the entire world. These days that's pretty much the Continental Euros, except the expat ones who've had a chance to see the world.

Oh and don't go around calling US customary units "English" units, the English engineers I've worked with don't really understand that.

As for a game, If I were coding it, I'd stick to one set and be an imperialist myself. Too much work otherwise. But that's me.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

I thought this thread had died. I don't use measurements on an everyday basis like you probably do so I am still stuck on using the farenheit, feet, and miles.

Before I retired I was a construction project manager and we used the American measuring tapes. Now they have metric on those too. World is going to hell in a red Ferrari. [:@]

It's a pity Napoleon didn't win at Waterloo. If he had the whole world may be metric now. I to grew up with imperial and converted to metric. I'm comfortable with both, but remembing 1.68 metres is a lot easier than to remember 1 yard 2 feet 5 1/4 inches when ya 10 ft up a ladder oops I mean 3 and bit metres. [:D][:D][:D]
