Don't forget....CAP wanders also...

i'm eschewing 5 worders here:

SUPPOSEDLY CAP/LRCAP, etc., doesn't interact, however, i suspect we are seeing that in some cases it does: namely, wandering CAP from two nearby bases are interacting somehow... possibly set up by the recon flight.

if this is true, you might expect to see it again in bases that are in close proximity to enemy bases, and might be triggered again by another recon flight.

I agree ...I think this what we are seeing.

I don´t think John had his planes on LRCAP as there was no reason for it (he could answer that to be 100% sure). So either it was an escorted recon or the cap wandered out 2 hexes out of both bases to meet in the middle for dogfight.

That can only be answered by a dev... Is that possible?[X(]

i suspect it is possible - maybe some codemeister could look at it.

i suspect it would be something that would NOT occur very often, and possibly it is a consequence of a recent patch. But, as you say, only a dev could give a definitive answer but possibly a player could set up a limited scenario to see if it does happen.

Never saw CAP wander more than 1 hex, but I suppose it's possible... Not likely, but possible...

Cap can wander up to 2 hexes if the hex being attacked has < strength there than the CAP that is eligable for wandering.

I was trying to remember if I'd ever seen it, but came to the conclusion that it must have been LRCAP I'd been remembering...

Happens quite often. My Spitfires at Akyab (set to LRCAP, range = 0) regulary intercept my opponent's planes when he recons Pagan.

And read 7.3.2.5 of the rules (Incidental Combat)

"Planes flying into a hex that contains enemy aircraft may at any point of combat resolution be caught up in an air battle in that hex. Thus, while witnessing one set of planes fighting each other, other planes not with that particular set may end up participating and becoming casualties in the air to air fighting."

Yes...introduced in a patch a year or so ago to increase CAP flexability.

I should probably mention that .......occasionally.....as in not very often.....I see discrepancies in the Intel screen in regards to air losses. Might be a glitch but I don't think it's a bug.

What´s the difference between a glitch and a bug? Aren´t both errors of a programm?

The planes that are shown in the intel screen were really lost as I checked the squadrons. They were set to no replacements and were at full strength before. After the turn, the planes were missing.

What I don´t understand is the fact that BOTH caps would have to wander out two hexes to meet. So far so good. The problem is that in the middle, at the hex they would meet, there was nothing. No LCU, no air battle, nada.

So both CAPs would have to fly out of their own hex just to attack each other as no other planes (bombers, recon,...) were there.

A glitch is an occasional error in math...or some other form of malfunction in the code that causes the odd result of other type of phenomenum. A Bug is something that repeats continuously due to a specific flaw and usually requires corrective measures.
