Combat Team 1 In The Pacific

Post by KG Erwin »

August 1942: we 've landed on Guadalcanal, and CT 1, which is composed of three light light tank platoons, FOUR USMC Rifle Companies, four 81mm mortars, and two 2 SP 75s detached from the divisional Special Weapons Bn, is deployed to meet an expected Japanese counterattack.

I'm placing three companies forward, with Able Company in reserve.

Do you have screenshots of your settings and your core?

How many points did you spend on your core?

Dang, I didn't keep track of the points used, before it's far less than the 4000+ default points available. That's the thing -- the limitations on units makes buying two full infantry battalions impossible. It WOULD be cool to be able to give myself a much larger USMC force, though.

What seemed odd is that my first battle map was the 2000-yard one. I've got Easy Company (detached from 2/5) placed in the south, about 6 hexes behind the front. Now that I think about it, I might redo this and buy a Raider Company as the fourth. The Raiders, with their better mobility, would be ideal as either a reaction force or a spearhead. Hmmm...

Here's my tentative deployment. I'm in a delay mission, but I deployed aggressively. As for the settings, I set AI normal and arty at 120%. I bought three battalions of 105s as off-board support, but I'm not going to launch a pre-emptive barrage. The idea here is simple -- I will contain the enemy attack, and then move Easy Company forward to conduct a counterattack and roll up the enemy flank. As this happens, the forward companies will sidle to the right.

Stacking rules: no more than two squads per stack, plus maybe an MG and a mortar. No more than one tank per hex. Ammo trucks in abundance -- I want my stocks filled up and to keep my 81s firing.

Now, look -- I've really stacked up things in my favor. What I expect is for the Japanese to be thick, and the unit density will probably look silly. Lots of artillery & mortars. Hollywood stuff. [8|]

The weather is clear (viz : 20 hexes). I'm moving forward to the riverline and will meet the enemy head on.

Glenn,

Can you post your preferences screenshot as in the example below (the screenshot below are the settings I use in my games)?

Also, can you post screenshots from your Headquarters display (the 'H' key)? I want to purchase your core.

Also, are you playing Medium battles, or are you playing Hard(x2) battles?

I want to get a feel for the kinds of battles you fight. I'm looking for a frame of reference.
