Shipping oil from US to Oz......yes, again.

Post by USSAmerica »

Ok, I'm sold on the advantage of shipping X amount of oil to Oz from the US and ending up with X fuel and X supply once it gets run through the HI there. You can't beat 2 for 1 on the shipping costs. [:D] It's a given that I would still need to ship additional fuel and supplies.

Here's my question. What harm could/would I do to my overall industry if I suck too much of the oil from the US and the HI there can't run at full capacity? Won't the HI points generated in Oz make up for this lost production, assuming zero oil is lost at sea, of course?

No worries there...You can suck out the last drop of oil from US and you'll still have more supplies and fuel on WC than you could possibly handle.

I guess I should be a bit more specific with my concern.  Will there be any hit to my HI points, and a resultant hit to the Manpower and/or Armament points?  Do these really even matter to the Allied side?

What they said.

Your industry gets all the oil it needs before you get all the oil you can take.

No hit to your production whatsoever.

You are not Japan, you have boundless resources and unyielding production (those were the good ol' days!).

Things work differently for the US than Japan. The United States hex gets lots of oil and resources you can't ship anywhere. If you drain off LA's oil, more will be shipped there overland to keep industry going.

Until the SRA becomes too dangerous for tankers, it's a good idea to take as much oil as you can from there and ship it to Australia. It's not only a shorter haul, but if you drain down the stored oil at Palembang, that will delay Japan a little bit when they take it. The production at Palembang is so high that it will only be a week or two's interruption for Japan after capture, but every bit helps.

I do the DEI route as well. I also carry as much fuel & supply as I can to Darwin so that this can be developed quickly and support the 3 Bdes which defend it. (23 Bde, plus the 2 Bdes from Adelaide)

In a game VS the AI I have abandoned then reoccupied Amboina and Sorong (The AI never invaded them [:D] ). Since I occupy also Kendari and Koepang, I can safely haul oil back to Darwin. The problem is that oil get stuck in Darwin and never is transported to HI towns (and in HI towns there are, let's say, 60K resources and 120 Oil [:D] ).  Why? I'm now taking it to Perth with tankers from Darwin

Taglia,

There isnt a viable route for the Oil to travel from Darwin. Perth is the better bet, Darwin needs fuel & supplies

I'm not sure whether the route from Darwin is viable or not, but AI tends to stock oil at places where it is not needed. That doesn't, however, mean that HI will not pull enough oil from those bases to keep itself running each turn.

I believe the only time the game will move resources or oil overland is if there is a railroad. Darwin isn't on a rail line, so oil will just sit there.

Darwin is connected by rail on the stock map, but it's too far away from any of the bases with HI.  The supply point value is over 100, or something like that.  2 points/rail hex, and it's over 50 hexes.  The exact numbers are posted elsewhere, but the point is that Darwin is only a temporary holding place for Oil and Resources.  They will need to be shipped out again by boat to Perth, or the East Coast HI cities.

That's what I'm now doing, shipping it to Perth (more secure, less subs [:D] )
